how bullet proof are the clutch slave cylinders don't want to refit the old one if prone to failure or am I better just getting a new one while box is off anyway?

At the very least, replace the bearing

bearing has been done didn't have a problem with clutch before removal slave looks ok though. best not take a chance

for powder coating candy red mate. plus the dual mass flywheel was fubar

In all the years, I am yet to see a failed slave cylinder on the Omega (unlike a few FWD units from certain manufacturers)

Only if you change the release bearing... if that fails, it will destroy everything in the bellhousing.

But whilst you're in there, you might as well change the lot

Thing is look at what you have to go through to get at it again. Change everything imo
