Just read all these posts, my own view is we know what is right or wrong so we have a choice. As for religion it causes too many problems & I personally think it is all utter nonsense .

Very interesting thread,

A fact the the whole world relies on is the date system BC and AD, is this not besed on Christ himself?

One can either believe in Darwin's theory of evolution, or the Bible's Garden of Eden fairy tale, but not both.  (yes it's a theory, so I believe that not to be a fact either)

I for one am not trying to beliitle anyone, Lizzie. I genuinely feel sorry that so many people believe absolutely in such an absurdity  Maybe Lizzie thinks that you saying that anyone thay absoloutly believes is obsurd.

I allways thought the OOF policy was not to allow posts on religeon and politics for this very reason.  ::)

Not wanting to throw a spanner in the works but hey... Let's just lob a grenade and run! ::)

Most of these "barbaric" faiths, for want of a better word, are now a similar age to that of Christianity during the Crusades... Just sayin' :-X ::)
IMHO, there is nothing wrong with faith, and in believing.  I'm not aware of many/any mainstream recognised faiths preaching anything other than love, peace and tolerance.

The problem come from power crazed humans, using faith, and more importantly its followers, to increase their power and wealth.

AFAICT, Jews, Christians and Muslims all believe in the same god, its just Juddism doesn't recognised Christ and neither Juddism or Christianity recognised Mohammed.  There is more in common and not. Most other religions have Pagonistic tendencies of many gods for different things.

I suspect the brainwashed unwashed of IS would love nothing better than for a full scale war, which their leaders would say was in the name of their gods/prophets, but in reality is just a selfish desire for more power (and wealth). Dying as Martyrs will only encourage those of weaker capacity but firm religious beliefs to sign up.

ok they want to be martyr ?
no problem.
build a wall, stand them in front and fill them with bullets in the name of there desire.
job done. a one day talk about it, some peeps have a party about it and no problems - no talks - no time wasting debates. all good again.

hows that?

i personally didn't meet any god untill now, and what's written down is speculations unless proof is given in pictures and by witnesses.
which is unlikely.

I feel like I'm stirring, now, but.. I saw this article (yes, I know, it's the DM) and was reminded of this thread:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2979494/Civilisation-does-NOT-need-faith-God-Belief-supreme-doesn-t-play-role-forming-complex-societies-study-finds.html

tl;dr:
Quote
Civilisation does NOT need faith in God: Belief in supreme being doesn't play a role in forming complex societies, study finds
Scientists at the University of Auckland studied 97 Pacific island cultures
Belief in an all-powerful God was found to not be a civilising influence

Fear! That's all there is to it.

You've heard the term "God fearing" right?

The implication being, behave, in whatever way applicable, or you'll have God to answer too.

...but if you love God, where's the harm?

Foggy believed in green underpants. Worked for him ;D :y

I don't believe there is a god, nor do I believe that Jesus was the son of god, I also do not believe that the immaculate conception happened either - thats just impossible - fact.....

I do believe in Darwins theory of evolution - he has been proven correct in his theories many many times over...

However, I do believe that there might have been a man walking this earth saying that he was the son of god and the bible is his autobiography - maybe written by a ghost writer (possibly the holy ghost :))

If someone says to me they believe in god, I dont belittle them, they can believe whatever they wish to - thats up to them and their brainwashed brain.... not my problem is it...

Science has proven that there is no god, I believe the scientists when they say we started life as a big bang and we went from there, took it upon ourselves to emerge from omoebas and develop eventually into modern man.... science has proven these facts, god hasn't proven a thing....

Humans are very gullible, especially god fearing humans of the eastern world...

The Muslims etc... practicing their Islamic faith is entirely up to them if they want to do it - but all these attrocities that they practice are no different to what the Pagans and Christians did thousands of years ago as they slaughtered their way through the world....

Im not sorry if this offends anyone, I dont thrust my beliefs of a god on anyone until they start to thrust their opinions/beliefs on me..... thats when I start to walk away giggling and shaking my head....
