3.2 misfire
« on: 22 April 2015, 20:45:19 »

My 3.2 is running of a cylinder or two as I had it plugged into a diagnostic computer and was coming up multiple cylinder misfire on 1 & 3 but not its not saying it's present also coming up 02 sensor bank 1 and catalyst level running rich

I didn't think this would cause it to misfire as such or would it

Carry out pedal trick and post results... :y

030x codes are most likely oil or water contamination of the coil packs...

Clean breathers and replace Camcover gaskets or reseal scuttle as applicable :y

Depends on the code reader, but pedal trick will tell you exactly what the ECU thinks is amiss :y

I had a similar problem. Water in the coil pack caused by the windscreen not sealed properly after wiper motor replacement. Put the coil pack over the rayburn overnight, sealed screen, problem solved.

It give me

P0130-8  02 Sensor Circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 1) - PRESENT

P0170-9 fuel trim malfunction (bank 1) - PRESENT

P0430-1 catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 2) - PRESENT

P0420-1 catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1) - PRESENT

It's idling a bit rough with some minor vibration through the gear stick & hesitates when revving

This was codes from a £1400 Autel Diagnostics Computer

I then erased codes & 02 Sensor (bank 1) was still present.

I didnt get a chance to do the paper clip test, I will try to do it tomorrow night if possible and report back

Cheers, Carl

Pedal trick on the 2.6/3.2 and it's free ;D

0430/0420 are basically factory fitted, so ignore them.

Done petal trick/test and give me the same codes as above

Although bought an 02 sensor today from my local motor factors and fitted it, EML was still on until I plugged the computer back in done a quick scan then erased codes & boom **Problem solved***
No more Rev hesitation or idling rough

Why do you think that? You reckon it's not a complete fix ?

Resetting the codes also resets the Ecu to a default map. This lasts for as long as it takes the ecu to learn the new live values...

That said, you didn't have a single misfire code, so the apparent 'misfire' could have simply been the ecu messing with the fuel trims due to a duff sensor...

But rest assured, the 0420/0430 will be back and will put the light back on :y

Moving the lambda sensors from in between the pre-cat and main cat, to post main cat.

These codes are generated because the pre-cats loose their efficiency.  :y
