Just checking I'm correct here bank 1 sensor 1 would be the pre cat sensor from cylinders 1, 3 and 5? Am I right?

Yes you are correct, bank one sensor two is the downstream sensor which throws the 0420/30 codes, that's the sensor that needs moving to after the main cat.

Okay so il move that sensor to after the cats but will this solve my problem? Take it I still need to replace the pre cat sensor then with a genuine Bosch.

Are these sensors all the same or different? Just I was reading that the pre cat sensors are usually used for fuel control & main catalytic converter oxygen sensors for reading amount of 02 used?

I'm confused abit with these as maybe I've got the wrong sensor as I just asked for an 02 sensor at the motor factors.

Ignore 0420/30 for now. That's sensor 2.

You need to fix sensor 1.

There are no cats between the engine and sensor 1. So sensor 1 is purely concerned with exhaust gas created by the fuel/air mix. It's reporting the fuel air mix incorrectly, so the ecu is trying to "trim" the mixture by adding or subtracting a % to the normal injector timing duration. So your getting a fuel trim code as well.

Sensor 2 is AFTER the much smaller pre cat. So it's expecting to see some cleaner gasses (pre cats are there related to cold starting emissions in the States I think. Whatever, it was a crisp idea.) But because the PRE cats are old/small/have an exceptionally hard life the catalyst wears and becomes inefficient, as the codes says. Moving sensor 2 to a location AFTER THE MAIN cat, restores the efficiency sensor 2 expects to see. So 0420/30 codes disappear, the light stays off, and you can then see when the light comes on for a "genuine" fault, like a dodgy O2 sensor or a misfire etc....

As Webby says though, it can do no harm to check (via the pedal trick, not a lesser known code reader, however expensive) there are no misfire codes listed.

I would advise doing so before purchasing a new sensor as that could complicate matters, as the codes "could" be a result of the miss fire, not other way round. I don't think so, as the ecu shuts down a misfiring cylinder on the drive by wire cars. But I don't want to waste your money advising a new sensor if it's not needed due to a diagnosis potentially based on half the available info. :)

Okay thanks I will try moving sensor 2 to a location after the cats, and see what the pedal trick says after I do so

Cheers guys

I also tried changing bank 1 sensor 1 with bank 2 sensor 1 to see if it would bring up sensor 1 on bank 2 was just trying to rule out if it was a faulty sensor but still reading bank 1 sensor 1, so hopefully at the weekend I will get sensor 2 moved location after the main cat my friend is good with a welder so should be no problem

Is it possible for me to post pictures being a newbie?

Think posting pictures is no problem.Only thing you can't post until you hit at least 250 post count are for sale ads.

Hi guys

So on Sunday night I relocated bank 1 sensor 2 to after the main cat and started her up but light  was still on, I then reset it with the computer in work and drove it for about 70miles & just there tonight the light had came back on again but I have to say it was under abit of pressure I was driving up a bit of a hill in 3rd around 4000-4500rpm when it came on & now I'm getting these codes.

0130
0150
0430
0120
0170
0300
0201

Any ideas
Thanks, Carl

P.S I took a few pictures of my sensor relocation but I don't know how to upload photos yet 😏

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90594.0 ::)

Don't know what you've done, but you've really pissed off the car :-\

In no particular order...

Bank 1 O2 sensor 1
Bank 2 O2 sensor 2
Random multiple misfire
Throttle pedal position sensor
Bank 1 fuel trim
Cylinder 1 fuel injector
Bank 2 cat efficiency

What code reader? Pedal trick is more reliable than "My Naff Code Reader"...
