Window lock?
« on: 19 February 2017, 16:52:25 »

I want to restrict how far one of my UPVC top opening window opens....say to 4 or 5 inches

Its the downstairs bathroom window.

I have a shower in the morning and used to leave the top opener open all day for ventilation. But since getting broken into about 18 months ago (that's how they got in....through the bl**dy top opener!) I leave it in the 'vent' position, which only leaves it open by about 1/2 inch...which isn't enough to allow the bathroom to dry out....

Ive been having a look about, but cannot see anything suitable.....

Any ideas chaps.....

something like
http://www.diy.com/departments/yale-white-ventilation-window-lock/254586_BQ.prd

Ive seen similar to what they use in hotels too
edit : https://www.homesecureshop.co.uk/cable-window-restrictor-child-safety-lock-max6mum-security
or
https://www.homesecureshop.co.uk/safe-t-bar-upvc-door-window-chain-restrictor

Ive looked at all three of those...

1st one .... no good as it needs quite a large area of the frame to mount one side of it....which my window hasn't got

2nd  .... I was concerned the cable length was too long ... I only wanted to open the window for or 5 inches

3rd ... Looked a bit flimsy to me......

It is. So, I guess, Rob means the top of the frame.

He means how long is the hinge... Presuming that the hinges are side and not top mounted ;)

If you leave it open even an inch, someone who wants in will get in.

Pedant :P ;D Transom is the bar, but the opening window/vent above is also known as a transom

Restrictor stays.
If you mean "hinges". restrictor hinges are manufactured @ 10" or 250mm at their shortest. Hence my question.
