AVG Free error - "bin file is missing"
« on: 17 August 2008, 09:11:40 »

Hi All

AVG seem to be having a problem, it looks like yesterday's update is causing it to throw an error up . "A bin file is missing".

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling - no change.

AVG's website is hard to get to. Some Google surfing indicates they are on to it though.
In the meantime you can manually update with these files
http://free.grisoft.com/softw/80free/update/u7avi135781.bin
http://www.grisoft.cz/softw/80/update/u7iavi1616oo.bin
Save them to a folder.
In AVG, go Tools - Update from directory. Then tell AVG where the files are and it updates.
That worked for me.

Let me know if you have trouble getting these files and I will put copies on my website (if the Mods think it is OK to do so)

Not the first time this has happened iirc...  ...I tend to stay away from AVG now - just a confidence thing.

Still, not as bad as VMWare with their latest update to ESX server - timebombed!  And just before the timebomb went off, I nearly moved OOF to ESX.  And ESX is a market leading, datacentre level virtualisation software for mission critical apps!

Hi gang, had the same error first thing this morning, but had to go out, so no time to investigate.
Have just switched on, (5 min ago) and now AVG seems to be OK. Haven't done anything this end, so assume AVG have sorted the problem their end.
At 08:30 this morning, had the .bin file missing. At 11:20 all is OK having just done an automatic update check.
May not need to worry now lads... :y

Yup, todays update fixes it, may need to force an update though.
