Buying a torque Wrench  what type?
« on: 02 September 2008, 12:39:23 »

Has i do not have a Torque Wrench apart from the older long type with a tension plate & pointer on the handle, which is not much good!
Dont want to spend a fortune on one say £25 max here's link to gaybay for some & also link to one that seems to be ok as I hope to be doing some work on my miggy asap. I have a mixed socket set 3/8 & 1/2 inch so will probably go with 1/2" drive
What you think guys, or any recommendations as to where to buy !

I got one from argos maybe? cant remember now!

But its ok for most stuff, maybe wouldn't trust an engine rebuild with it though! ;D
Think it was £15

Hardly ever use it, just feel for tightness etc :)

Halfords do a few with diffrent ranges of torque.

There extremely accurate and come with a lifetime garentee and calibration certificate.

What about a low values torque wrench for the more delicate jobs?

e.g. Gearbox Sump bolts (9 ft lbs from memory), cam cover bolts.

check that certificate ;)

Not very accuarte, but much easier to set than a traditional micrometer.

I was nosing through a catalogue in a motor factors the other day and they were selling 1/4 drive torque wrenches which went as low as around 4 ft lbs IIRCC... Unfortunately it's 270 miles away so I can't go and check!! But they were a good price :y :y

Sealey do one which has a wide range - you need to go done to 8Nm for some common jobs on the Omega.
