I can sympathise with that. My wife has health issues which are getting her down at the moment and she was really looking forward to our son ( her little Prince) being home at Christmas for the last time before he becomes a married man next year.
Its been taken away today, and Im working 12 hours Christmas day, so she will be home alone until 8pm.
She was in tears about it when Boris announcef it, but what can you do but suck it up.
The situation with your Mum sounds very different though. If I were in your shoes I dont know what I would do tbh.
I cant say I wouldnt be tempted to do what you were talking about - see her, but use common sense at the same time.

The thing that put our situation in perspective is that we heard a couple of days ago that a 60 year old woman, a mile from us, who we both worked with years ago, died from Covid.
What her husband and two kids will have to go through this Christmas doesnt bear thinking about, and doesnt leave us much of a right to moan about our situation.

Thanks for your reply, in all honesty I wish I hadn't said anything. I have said on many occasions, I should only participate in car related discussions, and this is a classic example of why I should probably stick to that.

Not that, even that, has much relevance anymore. How many of us own Omegas now?
[/highlight]

I do James!! :y :y :y

And like you I wonder many times about posting anything on here, but I will continue to make my feelings known, even if on hindsight they are as daft as some will tell me they are!! :-[ :-[ :-[

I for one value your learned comments James so I think you should keep posting no matter what some may think, even if they are right!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I look at it like this, if some of us do not post it will mean that the 'survivors' will have no new threads / postings to comment on.  That then is the end of democracy on the OOF!! :y :y :y :y

Happy Christmas and Peace to you! :y :y :y

Common Sense suggests that nobody should mix with anyone else.  Though reality is this is not always possible.

If the government had to legislate for every conceivable variation, well, that would be unmanageable.  Trouble is, the British Public, as we know, are incredibly thick and, as has been stated, aim for the rules to be the target they must meet*.  And the authorities are pissing in the wind by trying to rely on the common sense of the populous.  Personally, I think all parts of the Great Britain (not sure on NI's current rules) have implemented the least restrictive rules possible given the circumstances, I think they do need tightening...   ...this new more infectious strain is clearly now everywhere, so I think everywhere should be a minimum of T3, and most places T4.

I'm in T2, in a commuter town, a few miles north is the T3 area spreading south from the midlands, and 1 mile south is T4.  Its a bit non sensical, as a significant proportion of people are mixing to what the rules allow.

Whilst I'm pretty confident if/when I catch it, I probably won't notice any more than the usual colds I get this time of year, it would be likely I would spread it to someone (directly or indirectly) who would not fare so well.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I do think the government has always been slow to respond.  For the current extra restrictions, this was obvious early last week when the numbers started to rise significantly.  Other than that, I think the government has done a reasonable job...   ...and the mainstream media has done an absolutely crap job, even by their pathetic standards.

I can honestly say these new rules will make no difference to me. I wasn't planning on mixing with anyone from outside my own household...until at least 2023....maybe 😄

Yes, indeed TB, over many years now many of us have been complaining about the "Nanny State" and how we are being controlled by the government of the day and not allowed to make our own decisions.

Now this IS the time for a complete, absolute Nanny State to exist, even an autocratic one, to protect the many stupid people from themselves.  How can the government trust people to "do the right thing" and use common sense when they constantly fail to do that in normal times, let alone now!

It is interesting how the Western democratic world has been so badly affected compared to what we know has been the case in the autocratic countries.  It is down to democratic "Freedoms" that normally are a good thing, but NOT NOW.  We need state control, with our leader telling us clearly, and laying down the law, about what we should not do with war time like legal enforcement.  That way it will protect us from ourselves and save thousands of lives. ;)

........
Once again a very sensible and common sense explanation of the facts Entwood, and great advice from you   :-* :-*:y :y :y :y

Sorry to hear of your losses close to you :'( :'( :'(

Lizzie, as far as I know Royal Wootton Bassett is still in Tier 2, so which part of Entwood's criteria falls in to Tier 2 to allow his daughter (who has a partner) to visit. We are in Tier 2 and haven't been in either of our children's houses as per the rules. Its a heartbreaking time for all of us but people's interpretation of the rules vary, especially where single people are concerned. If I've got it wrong then I apologise but I thought the response regarding the 'outrage bus' was aimed at James, and I feel for the guy.  We all have reasons to feel disgruntled but, as you say, we need to stay safe.
Not intended to offend, so apologies up front if it has. (I refuse to use emojis until the normal emojis return)

I dont care about protecting stupid people from themselves. Its not the Govt,s job to do that. Its Darwinisms role to thin out and replenish the gene pool.
I do care though about protecting decent sensible people from the terminally stupid, and unfortunately the govt has to either do that job, or allow the rest of us to shoot stupid people as and when we encounter them.

I believe you're supposed to get a test if things start tasting or smelling funny. Wife is off for two weeks now, so I'd better keep her away from the kitchen or I'll be going for a test every day.

The trouble is, there are those in government or opposition who would impose such restrictions in such a way as to be irreversible.

And whilst you might argue that freedom (perceived or otherwise) is a luxury, losing what we have left isn't an option because once it's gone it will be to late to reclaim it.

The longer term choice seems to be carry on regardless or become mindless drones.

Not against the principle behind the restrictions, but we're leaning over a cliff with a very rickety guard rail.

You have mates at school, after that they become an unnecessary nuisance. These days I don't fancy going the park or playing football in the street.
