Yes Opti the suicide rates in trans people is higher than for the rest of the population vs. The number involved, but that is because of the attitude of the general public as witnessed by some in this thread. Ignorance and plain arrogance that means joe public cannot accept that nature does throw up differences in people means that a trans person is frequently rudely challenged, insulted, laughed at, and even assaulted just because they are “different” . This is all because it is beyond the intelligence of so many to understand that this is a very real, VERY SERIOUS challenge for those involved. It is no joke and young and older trans individuals alike have to deal with opposition even within their own families let alone in the general population. Anyone of them reading this thread, and others on this Forum, could well be hastened along the suicide route and that is why I am taking time to challenge what is being crudely discussed and warn your very words could have consequences.
The whole transitioning process is long and ardeous that no one takes on lightly unless they are very genuine about their Gender Dysphoria. It is painful emotionally then physically and as a process can be very frustrating, upsetting, being very lengthy seemingly without end for those trans individuals. It is not “ a load of shit” as some suggest, but very real and thank goodness has been increasingly recognised as a serious genuine human condition since the 1960’s.
For a report from a serious scientifically source read this:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7317390/The rates of suicide are high as I have stated, but thank God not as high as you quoted from a completely biased, anti trans, source.
