So...if the government make the wrong decision and it costs lives, that is much worse than making the wrong decision and wrecking the economy. Which is why (now, not necessarily in the beginning) the government will always appear over cautious. By government I mean governments, of course, and this is probably why the Likes of France and Germany really don't care about what we think. They must be seen to be protecting their own.

Oh yes and I don't blame France and Germany or any others for that matter as it's a great look for their governments.  Look, we're protecting you from those nasty covid ridden Brits!   :)

If I'm right though and our covid infection rates are similar when adjusted for testing rates, why don't our government call them out?  ???  ::)

I don't expect the corrupt media to call them out because they are still looking out through their salty Brexit tears and want us to think everything is better on the continent.  It's not. The Netherlands are now in hard lockdown.  Hopefully we won't follow suit.  :-\
Why don't our government call them out on what? They are sovereign states, they can do as they like. This is especially true as we're no longer a member of their club.

I didn't say they couldn't do as they like, but if they are going to put restrictions on us (as is their right) claiming we're some sort of outlyer, then you'd think our government might point out that their infection rates are similar to ours when adjusted for testing rates.  :-\

It's slanderous!  That's what it is!  ;D

Just to add a bit of flavour to the mix, the missus has just got a positive test result back. Have to work out where that leaves us.

Up the creek.
Can I rely on a paddle, or am I without them too?  ;D

Can't you use empty Covid test boxes? You probably have enough ;D
You're right. Being in school she has had to take LFDs every day. Thing is, she has felt rough since Thursday but, as the LFDs have been negative, she has not been worried. She went for a test last night just to be sure and it came back positive.
She's just done another LFD for research purposes and, of course, it is negative. Useless effing things....that the country is relying on to keep the virus at bay.
Surprise, surprise, nearly three days after her positive PCR, the LFD showed a positive result this morning. If she'd been relying on that, she could have infected a small town before going for a proper test.

It's not just the virus that is bringing this country, Europe and, to some extent, the rest of the world, to a grinding halt, it is the fear that goes along with it.

This is very true. I've just got back from Florida and they seem to have a much more balanced approach than we do here. There is lots of hand sanitiser everywhere and everyone wears a mask indoors or gets asked to leave, regardless of what coloured lanyard they have on or how f*cking special they think they are. We were also able to get a rapid PCR test free of charge to be cleared to fly home, had we had US medical insurance, our insurer would have had to pay but as we don't the state covered it. Same tests here, £35 a pop, and they aren't even the rapid ones ::).

Everyone we spoke to out there seems to have accepted C-19 as a fact of life, they get tested, vaccinated and put on masks, but then they just get on with life.

Then again, as a state with such a massive tourism industry, they probably don't have much choice.

Much the same experience as the Canaries from the sound of it, although I timed it well only needing one test for the whole trip...

£37 for a drive through test within two days of the return seemed pretty reasonable all things considered.  :y

Our son has just tested positive he's in Leeds (Police) so that's one off our Christmas lunch but I am led to believe that virtually all leave in the force has been cancelled anyway.

That's tough on him, Mick, is he bad with it? I'm guessing not if he's fit and healthy.

OhMacron news?

It would be hard to ban as they are part of Schengen free movement area. In Spain during our lockdown we had the ridiculous situation of Frenchies coming and partying openly. We couldn’t even leave our “ county” but loads of North Europeans were driving around freely in campervans and foreign reg cars.
