I won't say too much because we really don't want to cause any ripples.

When we arrived at Newent (in good spirits!) we drove around to see where everyone was before booking on. When we drove back towards the reception, there were a couple of cones blocking access.

I asked Maria to move one of them so I could move over to reception and pay. As she was doing this, the campsite lady shouted across the road at Maria, in a rather condescending tone,  "they're there for a reason".

I immediateely apologised to the lady, said "I'm sorry, we made an honest mistake and came the wrong way, and we'd like to book onto a pitch".

The lady then repeated what she said, and despite my initial apology she wasn't at all civil to Maria. Quite rude in fact, at which point I told her quite bluntly that "Honest mistakes do happen!"

Bottom line was, we did not feel at all welcome on their site following this  - so we left :y

I think the problem was, that one car probably looks very much like another to the old lady and she has probably asked everyone who drove through the cones not to (when she asked me not too she was very pleasant)because due to the amount of rain, the field was becoming very boggy. The sad thing is you probably missed a good weekend more than the woman missed her £6 :(

Of course I fully understand her reasons - and respect them - but in our opinion her conduct was such that we didn't want to stay on her property.

It's not a problem - we went down to Devon instead - and with the exception of Newent, we will still see you at all the other sites OOF meet at :y

I heard what you and the site owner said myself, she was no different with you than with anyone else being fair. The field was very water logged and she was trying to stop the grass from becoming a mud bath, that is why she put up the cones. You also drove straight past the reception without stopping to ask where you needed to go.
Then when you roared off down the drive someone coming onto the site came and made a complaint about you.
I must admit I felt in rather a position when asked about it.

Even so Loo-knee there was still no need for her to be so dame right rude to me  and we was very pleasant to her but I know now that she was the mother of the owner  and she was like that to some of OOF members and was not at all very pleasant to them , I'm sorry that you was in the middle of it all and thanks for telling us where to go but I was upset by the way she spoke to me

She could of said to me "please can you go an other way as they was put there for a reason not just say " they was put there for reason in a very bad mannered way and i shouldn't be spoken to like that when James was very pleasant to her people don't have any good manners any more

Whoa

As said in my first line, we are not wanting to cause any ripples, hence why we just decided it wasn't going to work out.

The question was asked, the opinion was offered - let's leave it at that please guys.

If someone feels the need to complain, I'm happy to pass on my details.

I think, I know when we are not wanted :y

I have not heard anyone say you were not wanted, no use playing the hard done to card.
No-one from the forum complained it was someone else who was staying on the other side of the camp.

I'm not making out I'm hard done at all.

Regarding your comments I need to chill - I actually agree. I've been under heck of a lot of stress lately and the little things do seem to set me off at the moment. It's something I am seeking some help for.

But your sarcastic comments regarding broken ribs, weren't really called for, and were the basis for my comment.

Were not meant to be sarcastic just stating a fact

A very valid fact too - but possibly one that would have been better discussed by PM.
