I am absolutely tearing my hair out with the standard of driving in this country.
When I am cruising at a solid 60 on a 60 road, keeping a very considerate distance from anything in front, I find that I either have something so far up my @rse I can't see it's headlights, OR I end up rapidly approaching someone dawdling at 38mph in a national, on a straight, dry road where it's safe to make so much more progress.
When (very safely) overtaking the dawdlers on A roads, (without ever getting close to them) I am often met by all manner of repeated, aggressive headlight flashing / gestures, and often even them booting it to try and stop me passing.
And then the middle-laners! I regularly do a very short stretch of motorway (3 junctions) a couple of times a week, and people are literally driving in lane 2 at 60mph, having not recently overtaken anything / not about to overtake anything - with lane 1 totally empty!
Leaving the choice of entering lane 3 at around 75/80mph to pass them, and risk some knob coming up behind you from nowhere at 120mph, or sitting behind them, hoping they move into the totally empty lane to their left. I'm not saying I do this, but one could easily just drive at 70mph in a totally empty lane one, and pass all the the slower moving traffic to the right!
I was also in heavy motorway traffic the other day (all 3 lanes crawling) and half a mile from my exit, and the amount of people who used the hard shoulder for half a mile to bypass the congestion and come off quicker, almost made by blood boil

Absolutely surrounded by people who are incompetent, selfish, brain dead, entitled wastes of oxygen.
It was never quite this bad. What is going on? Reduction in test pass standards? Surely it can't still be people out of practice since Covid? Or - controversial, but is it something to do with the vast influx of foreigners infiltrating this country who have never actually passed a UK test?
I can quite honestly say I don't enjoy driving (or travelling) by car in the UK at all, anymore... these days I prefer to look out for advance first class train tickets, where I can get an individual, single seat reserved to myself, and not have to sit anywhere near any other tinker.....
