The absolute breakwit who designed the BMW E90.
On the upside, at least they still have some (proper) car designers, unlike the retards you love so much ;D

The ML uses 10 bolts, two screws and 6 push pins. But at least Mercedes engineers, even from Alabama, have the sense to use the push pins in the wheel arch... And the Mercedes go to for using a slide in locking bar to clamp the wing and bumper together is fool proof even if the wing is distorted and full of filler. Using two hidden screws on a joint that is less than 4 inches long is assinine.

No, I was referring to the worse of all the German marques, which isn't BMW or VAG

I would like to have "a chat" with Sir Ian Callum, who designed both my cars.

More than that, I'd like to have a chat with the post design penny pinchers and the minkys responsible for pre-production decisions.  Such as using a torx bolt on the suspension that needs a T60 bit, and the idiot who uses a bolt that's 2" too long to hold the front lower arm to the subframe.

Surprisingly, I feel the need to praise the brummies who bolted them together - one was build in Castle Brom, other in Solihull - as they are well put together and rattle free.

Yesterday, I remembered I still need to look at the wireless in the XJ, as for months I've only been able to receive a handful of stations on DAB.  Not sure what is going on there, as I don't think there has been any recent changes after the introduction of DAB+ ?

Check to see if FM and TV is still ok, they share common amps and antennas.

Also make sure you have not fitted any of your favourite Chinesium extras which could be chucking EMC out all over the DAB band

I have a vague recollection of a DAB+ module upgrade you could do (C2D33982)?

TV was OK on the few channels I tried, but didn't try Funny Mode - in these parts you could only ever really get BBC and Heart FM anyway.  I shall test that next time I pop out in it :y

Pretty certain mine already had DAB+ capability, based on the fact that up until a few months ago it was receiving loads of stations, and I think DAB+ came on ages ago? But I can certainly check the module fitted.  I have it in my mind that all x351 came with a DAB+ compliant one, it was early XFs that had the DAB only unit?

The rear screen was replaced around June 2024 due to it coming unbonded, and had a bloody great crack in it for years, that you may remember.  Certainly it picked up lots of DAB after that, it was one of the things I checked.

Well the terrestrial DAB is via the rear screen wires (connected on the NS), the satellite DAB (SDARS) is via the Sigma Pod and is North America only, so don't worry about that one.

Yup, was aware we don't use the one in the sigma pod, so its only GPS I run from that.  Turns out its bloody good knowing where you are even with the sigma pod on the kitchen worktop, as I ran without mine for hundreds of miles ;D

I guess I need to double check screen elements for damage as well, in case the Kosovans got carried away.  Thinking aloud, I wonder if that was when it went wrong, as it wasn't long after the puddle drowning, and she did take it somewhere for a wash afterwards once we'd dried out the inside.  Water levels in the boot didn't get anywhere near the DAB receiver, just a bit of a trickle in the bottom of the wheel well, so don't think it will be water damage from said drowning.
