I have a 2009 Passat Estate, purchased as a daily hack now the Rangie has gone to heaven. It's a 2.0 TDi, 6 speed manual. Very high miles - 209k. I bought it with 206k on the clock, and have done nothing other than a cambelt kit and water pump (DIY) about 2000 miles ago. It has always started and always driven exceptionally well.
Day before yesterday I left home, drove less than a mile, and it just suddenly lost power and died. Like fuel starvation. I managed to roll into a layby, tried to restart, no go. It was trying (and tried harder when cranking at WOT) but wouldn't go. I didn't try for long, because I needed to get somewhere, so I walked home to get the other car.
Today I went back to the VW. Plugged in a code reader - no codes. Cranked it a bit, and after a short while it caught, coughed a bit, and then ran fine. I went for a spin, covered 10 miles without any issue at all, plenty of power.
The fuel tank was full, almost to the brim, when it broke down. It was filled up the night before and had only covered 15 miles home. BUT, when I last refuelled the night before, it was literally on fumes. Range saying 0, gauge not moving (I know, I know!)
I am wondering if I ran it so low, that it took in some air or crap or similar, but odd that it took 15 miles after refueling to show up?
Guess all I can do is keep an eye and see if it reoccurs
