Not that I’m a fan of his, but I see Mike Brewer was raving about his EV last year but he’s now got rid of it and returned to petrol, saying the EV was a stupid move.
He cited his reason for getting rid of the EV as ‘He got fed up with sitting in a queue waiting for an available charger’. I’m guessing he’s referring to service stations, as our local garages and supermarkets have plenty of empty, unused bays.  :-\

Or he's trying to save face without admitting that he took the Chinesium positive marketing money... :-\

Or he's flip flopping his narrative on a frankly desperate attempt to keep himself relevant. Like the other sad TV has-bins who moved over to social media...

.

£75k BMW vs £50k Tesla Y = Very similar monthlies.  :-\

I think the two elements you won't see in the calculation are the level of 'manufacturer support'  each car has in the lease market, and yes, depreciation. Tesla for example, I found really variable in there monthlies when I looked over time. What I suspect they were doing is using very variable levels of discounting to lease providers to smooth any drop offs on private sales/leases and then pulling them again when demand was up.

I was going to have a model y, so looked at them over a period of a few months and the payments fluctuated by around £100pcm. Didn't go for it in the end though as swmbo didn't like like it as much as the BMW.

Most EV owners I have known personally became evangelical over EVs, right up until the point that they couldn't be bothered with the hassles of them any more (for those that it didn't really work too well for).

Its very telling i my road that many had EVs, now there is not a single EV in the road.  Some have even had the EV chargers removed, so clearly not planning on getting another any time soon.

Though towns like Brakkers probably aren't ideal for EVs, being a commuter town where you either commute 20 miles to a nearby larger town/city/train, or have to do the full London or Birmingham commute.  On the London/Brum commutes, or salesmen commutes, you are in the realms of buying a lot of expensive coffee which using expensive charging. On the shorter commutes, you are going to struggle to get payback on the fuel, added to which leasing schemes have gone up dramatically as the real costs are becoming better understood by the leasing firms and manufacturer schemes, along with the chronic depreciation

Yep, I think the fascination of owning an EV has been a passing fad that is now over. The government are kidding themselves regarding sales but the car manufacturers actions tell us otherwise.

Volkswagen :
Has cut EV production and abandoned plans for a new German EV plant due to poor demand.

Ford :
Has deemed its goal of becoming an EV-only brand by 2030 too ambitious and is considering extending the availability of petrol cars.

Toyota :
Slashed its EV production plans and chairman Akio Toyoda believes EVs will not dominate the market.

Volvo :
Has ditched its plan to become EV-only by 2030.

Honda :
Recently scaled back its investment and sales targets for EVs due to poor demand.

Mercedes-Benz :
Has extended the availability of its internal combustion engine due to slow EV sales.

This is just a small example, there are many others with the same issues.

Infrastructure companies are holding back on installations as the uncertainty makes them nervous about over investing for something that may not succeed.

Doesn't exactly sound like the thriving market they'd love you to believe does it.  :-\

Car manufacturers have been put in an impossible position.

Seen the new Frontera Ad on TV a couple of times, so just been on AT to have a look, was surprised at the price starting £19,995 to £27,140 so compared to most quite reasonable pricing.

No idea on quality, looked nicer on TV than is does in some of the pics.

Range is poor at 186 miles but maybe ideal for the grandparents as a local run about.

They're not really car ads, are they? Cartoon characters or CGI that tell you absolutely nothing about the car itself.

Strange looking creature isn’t it. It looks like the designer didn’t know what to do when they got to the rear quarter and just went for a quick finish.  :-\

Hmm, was it a car transporter loaded with BYD EV’s that burst into flames on the M5 motorway yesterday?  Should we be suspicious that the lorry cab still has paint on it, whereas the EV’s have been fried. Shouldn’t speculate really as it could have been caused by a discarded cigarette, or the trucks diesel tank.  :-\
Although, this would be in line with the Jaguar I-Pace setting fire to the entire car transporter on the M1 motorway a couple of years back. Oh, and the EV *(definitely an EV this time)* that caught fire in Heathrow Terminal 3 car park yesterday.  :-\

*
Fire crew stated that it was an EV Van, and that the fire is being treated as accidental and is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault with the vehicle's lithium-ion battery pack.

I've just had a look outside and where the garage once stood a blackened smoking patch has now taken it's place.

It has also taken the M240i with it.... ::) ::) >:D

Shouldn't joke just in case the big man upstairs doesn't have a sense of humour. >:D

Every EV should have the big Manchetts 'dunking tank',that i saw last week, following behind, just like the early days of motoring with the red flag man in front.  :D

I believe there was an issue with certain brands of battery so you should be fine now.  :y  To be honest, although they reported that the I-Pace caught fire in transit, it could well have been the trailer brakes that caught fire.  :-\

From memory it was the early 2018/19 cars that came with a suspect battery. Hopefully the 2025 car has been sorted....or not. :D
