I will always prefer a powerful petrol engine to a glorified milk float, but free charging at work makes it work for me.
Doc Gollum. Dont choke on those sour grapes.  ;D
I'm not sure that what you do counts as employment  >:D

It's like an elderly aunt that gives you an allowance and in exchange, you visit periodically and consume all her tea and biscuits before having a nap on the sofa ready to head home again... ;D

Nice work if you can get it!  :y

Very nice indeed when you get to my age. Hence I hope to carry on until Im 70.  :y :)

Whenever I see Camilla she reminds me of the ' batty mad aunt' who would have been locked in the attic and forgotten about in years gone by. :)

She reminds me of a third rate hooker who got lucky.  ::)

I still firmly believe that this should be taxable
Given we don't have access to a carpark, maybe they should fully tax parking spaces at market rate ;)

I firmly believe that most things that are already taxable shouldnt be, and people should be allowed to decide what to do with their own money.  :)

That's the proper, conservative view that most of us on here hold. The only thing that makes people disagree is envy because they're not getting it.

If the government employed people who could do basic maths, then taxation would be alot lower, but that's a separate issue.

Charging at work makes some sort of sense of there's space for everyone to park and every space has a charger. Otherwise it becomes either an individual benefit or productivity drops because everyone is constantly having to mess around swapping cars around waiting for the charger to be available. Not to mention that the company is subsidising your fuel, at which point it becomes a benefit.

For most of my time at various jobs at Gatwick parking was in one of a handful of car parks. Some companies picked up the bill and swallowed it, some passed the whole cost to the staff and some cut it 50/50. If I had to pay, it was taken from my net as a deduction. The lowest I paid was zero, the most was £80 pm.

BA provide free parking for everyone on duty, and very restricted holiday parking that isn't particularly convenient to use.

Albs situation is probably fairly unique because I doubt there is a queue of people waiting to get to the charger.

Twelve chargers and around half a dozen cars, so no queuing. Three of the cars are Directors Porsches which are worth at least twice my salary so I dont mind having a bit of free leccy from them.  :)

That wouldn't work at my place.

For example, my building, approx 5,000 employees, and precisely 0 parking bays.

And if it bothered them, they'd soon have something to say. ;)

That highlights just how retarded corporate thinking can be... Presumably they either sold the parking for cash or they allowed the landlord to :-X

Brand new building.  As are most of the other office buildings, built this decade. And all in the centre of the cities. And all with zero parking.  Cars are just socially unacceptable now, didn't you realise?

I assume the company got a massive back-hander from local governments to promise to bring 5000 a day into said shithole cities. And each pay the local sandwich shop over a tenner for a lunchtime takeaway sandwich.

My lad works in a new office/residential/leisure complex in Salford. A whole new area built over the last few years. No car parks.
Why would you want to use, say, 1000 square feet of land for a car park when you can build upwards on it. No brainer.
And I know you could have basement car parks, but the preferred option now is block paved areas between buildings so that pedestrians can move freely.

This only works, of course, if visitors/workers/residents can easily get there on clean, reliable public transport, and this particular area seems to have that.

apparently that was one of the excuses at Heinz for NOT providing charging stations regardless of who was paying for it) Ironically, work tied in with  some lease company to provide leccy cars.

It's still retarded thinking. The presumption is that everyone who works there lives within public transport range of the building. It's the same lefty idiocy that means new housing developments are built with less than one space for every three units

In the US where planners still have a brain, the building is put on top of the parking if space is tight.
