Sat 7th Feb 2009 - Early Hours (after arrest at bus stop).
I found out from Tara about 00.10 - 00.15 am approx. Police did try to ring me apparently but couldn't get through because I was engaged ringing people to see where he was/if he was staying at one of his friends houses like he tends to on a Fri/Sat night and had been ringing around since 10.00pm sporadically, his phone was either dead or switched off.
I also spoke to Jamie after finding out from Tara. Ray's friend Jamie, told me he had no idea as to why Ray was arrested but it could be to do with something to do with the takeaway shop as another group of boys about 5/7 of them went in after him (Jamie), Ray and Kieran. He told me Ray was waiting outside the shop when everything happened, about some can/s of of coke or something, but he didn't know exactly what just from what the shop man had been shouting out before he grabbed Ray and punched him full force in the face, really hard he said....but said the man had CCTV at the shop, as the man keeps telling them, and it would be on there. Jamie said they had been to the take away earlier and had been threatened with a broom to get out of the shop even though they had bought stuff and were just eating the food, and not doing anything wrong and the man often walked around the shop with a broom as a weapon when any of him or his mates went in the shop. Tara did say it was okay for Jamie to make a witness statement as well.
Rang 01895 251212 a couple of times to find out what going on etc straightaway and also Tara cos she wanted to know whether or not to go down there for him as an appropriate adult etc seeing as I didn't have money or car.....think last time I rang Police that night was circa 01.15 to the custody number 0208 246 1429. They rang me back once and think I rang them in custody twice all in all. Spoke to PC Murphy at one point and possibly another PC....One of the 2 PC.s there said Ray wouldn't be able to be interviewed 'til the morning anyway....something along the lines of not being allowed to be interviewed during 'sleep hours' or something like that. I think on both occasions when I rang custody I mentioned/asked about Ray's face because Jamie had said about him being punched in the face and has he seen a doctor/ had medical attention/did he have any facial bruising/bleeding...and can't remember what exactly was said...but pretty much only that there was "nothing wrong with him he looks okay". Nothing reassuring just that, with no concern from them at all really and I felt basically like they didn't care because he was a kid, and it seemed like they just presumed him guilty and that he didn't deserve any kind of care. Though Ray may feel that there was someone else in custody that did look after him, you need to ask him....but I was just left to wonder and worry.
What's happened to innocent until proven guilty? He's only 15 and should have been seen by some medical officer of some sort surely, not sure if Ray mentioned it to them when he got there/when first arrested. Not sure if there is any medical evidence to support Jamie and Ray's claims about the man punching Ray in the face at all.
Anyway went to bed circa 1.30 am, after it being agreed with everyone, that Dave and Tara not going to Police Station as Dave had to get up for work at 6.30 am, and that I should get some sleep because of Ray not being able to be interviewed until the morning and my epilepsy and was best to go in the morning and was still awake at 3.00 am ish. Got up circa 9.50 am and rang Tara circa 10.am to see if her and Jamie were coming to UPS as she had offered for Jamie to make a statement and for her to keep me company, the night before. Followed a little while afterwards upto an hour later a phone call to the UPS custody saying could they arrange to have a solicitor present for Ray for about approx 12.30 - 13.00 I think was the time I said would get there because of getting ready, travelling up there on bus, feeding dog etc. Then you rang just as was leaving out the door about Tom's phone and school uniform, so was a bit later than 13.00 to UPS because of that, which is why was a bit funny on the phone to you. Met Tom in the UPS reception at gone 13.00 but not sure what time exactly and gave him change for the phone to call you and Officer Grant called me in as soon as I gave Tom the change without me having a proper chance to chat to him at all. Told Tom not to tell you, as I wanted to find out all the details first.
Sat 7th Feb 2009 - At Uxbridge Police Station
When Officer Grant walked me through to custody dept, I was taken to the desk where I was told Ray had already spoken to duty solicitor Tony Mitchell of MPR Solicitors, Hounslow, Middx. Tel 0208 607 4660. I was given a leaflet 'Form 3053' Notice of Rights and Entitlements and Ray was given one at the same time as me, I am not sure if Ray was given one when he was booked into custody at all, he should of been looking at the type of form it is. There is apparently a book "Code of Practice" that Ray should of been able to look at but given the circumstances, his age, shock, tiredness I don't know if he was offered to read it, or as I said was given one of the leaflets that mention this (above) when he arrived. He was read his rights in front of me and taken through to the fingerprinting room...where Edward came down/through and met me and Ray and think he'd spoken and introduced himself to Ray at some point earlier, I asked Edward if he'd overseen everything and did it seem bad or okay...and he thought it would all be okay. Ray just continued to have his fingerprints taken and 3 photos. His DNA is already on record from 3 years ago approx. Then Ray and I had a chat with the solicitor in a room, after chat we had the taped interview. Myself, the solicitor, Officer Grant and Ray at about 13.50 or 14.10 approx. Afterwards we were given the...
