Looks like BIOS is disabling this adapter - have you removed the power from the PC (by pulling the plug for 30s). This is a very, very, very, very common problem on those appalling Nvidia NIC chipsets.

yes been unplugged for an hour and removed bios battery for 10minutes too to try an extra reset, but no good :-/

the mac update with amibios didn't work either :-/

getting pissed off with this now :'(

did you tried installing a seperate ethernet adapter ?[/quote]

not got an ethernet card (that's why i'm online via my wireless card)

might try to re-instal vista in a min.

clutching at straws now :-X

just an idea, if the board dont want to work with its own ethernet (seems like) disable totally (if possible) and use another one.. :-/

I'm sure someone in the neighbours/friends have one on an old unused machine..

i can carry on using this wireless card, but it's a brand new machine and i'm really annoyed that it's not perfect.

plus not sure i can disable onboard device, and currently have to press F1 to resume every time it boots, whic kinda spoils the 4second quick boot promised >:(

Try BIOS reset, if you haven't already, then get board replaced.

to return the motherboard i think will mean returning the whole system (pre-built) and that's going to cost me in postage :-/

Its a failure - under distance selling regs, I believe the retailer has to cop the cost of return postage if its failed. CAB or TS can confirm.

Maybe get a refund however irrating and buy and alternative which is more stable. I find some of the ASUS stuff reliable and well priced, it is still not the best out there but I find it reliable and stable  :y
