I made a big mistake selling my 05 plate 7 series just after hubby died. That had everything, all voice controlled, dvd, even PS2, but I sold it as I had enough to clear my mortgage all bar 12k, so I suppose a house was/is more important than a car, gotta live somewhere and cannot live in a 7 series

I been caught twice on phone

It was only recently I was speaking to a Roads Policing Officer, who had attended the scene of a fatal accident involving young children.

Caused directly as a result of selfish people using phones while driving, and not paying enough attention to the road.

It's a shame you didn't learn the first time around.

That makes me feel bad, and YES, it should, hence the reason I will not buy another car without hands free

Di,

Apologies for sounding so blunt.

It's an issue that I feel quite passionate about at the moment. Thanks for taking steps to be hands free.

Stay safe  :y

I still see no difference in drivng & talking on a radio & driving and talking on a phone!  :-?
Some halfwits on the road don't even have the excuse that they were on the phone. Earlier on this evening a silly bitch was in the lane on my left and started to move right, I hit the horn, she carried on moving right, I hit the horn for longer but she was going to move right anyway & make me give way to her. When I pulled passed her and stopped my (SWMBO's Smart) car right in the middle of of the by-pass I got out and suggested she should use her mirrors, her bottom lip was quivered & she said she didn't see me! Deaf as well as blind.  >:(  >:(  >:(
What would her excuse have been if I'd let her hit me & not backed off to 'let' her in front of me?
I suggest that a lot of these accidents are cause by idiots who don't pay attention whether on the phone or not!

At the end of the day, if you get an endorsable fixed penalty for doing something once -

then you're pretty daft to do the same thing again!

The Fixed penalty obviously had no effect on adjusting the behavour, and therefore the person should be put before the court.

My opinion, which I will stick to.

Thanks  :y

Not the safest of things to do, I suggest...

Was her lip quivering as she has realised her mistake or because some bloke stopped his car in front of her, got out and was giving her a hard time??

Take care, Mr B....   :y

That's not the point. If it's as dangerous to hold a conversation with someone who is elsewhere as the experts try to tell us, then it's as dangerous on a radio as it is on a phone .......

Sorry folks, was trying to split the 'mobile phone/radio warriors' thread away from the 'help me find a car' thread that this started as, hence the jumping around......  :-X

Even if the Radio is hands free - (which incidently is also allowed for the public?)

Either way you have to be realistic Andy.

At the end of the day, a Constable is also exempt from speed limits, by law, when travelling for a policing purpose.

This is a necessary evil, in order to do their job, in order to keep people safe. Its a calculated risk.

Using a radio comes into the same catagory. They just couldn't do the job without one!

It would appear you are attempting to manipulate the (lawful) actions of certain statatory organisations in order to justify activities which, are, quite clearly, unlawful.

It's not as "cut and dry" as you make out

I was before the court, and as the two offenses were less than 48 hours apart, the magistarte allowed them to be treated asone, I took a call to tell me my husband died an hour earlier, as I only just switched on my phone

Looks, folks...  If you want to have a discussion on phones, radios, speeding patrol cars and stuff, go start a new thread please in genchat and not pick over old scabs on a help request thread for a relative newcomer to the forum.  Hey!  I'll even join in!    ;D

Lucky you had such a magistrate!

I genuinely sympathise with the loss of your husband - sincere condolences.

That said - my original points still stand.
