I could fault me....... the amount of times I said "never again... "  :D ;D

We all say it.

I said the same words after a chinse takeaway on christmas eve  (not booze related I know)  and left a load of it.    Ordered annother one New Years Eve and left most of it.    This time I hope Never again actually means never again.  Eyes bigger than my belly as my Mom used to tell me when I was a kid.  ::) :-X

......
An argument was presented, by andyB, to the effect of "If Police can use a radio in a patrol car, then I can use a mobile phone in my personal car". ......

I suggested it should be the other way around.

I had a near miss whilst travelling down to porthcawl yesterday afternoon where the A40/A449 meets M4....I was in the left lane and there was a lady in the right lane and as we drove along the lights all changed in our favour so no need for us to stop....Juat as we both accelerated to get on the M4 an elderly gentleman had not seen the lights change and went straight through in to our path and stopped dead in his tracks as he realised what he had done!! I had to swerve to the left the lady driver swerved right and we both narrowly avoided driving into the side of his astra...Needless to say i had brown trouser moment and she had i presume if she was wearing any a brown knicker moment ;D The old guy just sat there totally oblivous to what might have been the worst possible start to our year.....Mind ya i should of realised what kind of day it was gonna be after getting a casll off my mate and him asking to be picked back up as the car he had just bought off E-gay had crashed after the front passenger wheel fell in cardiff city centre whilst he was on his way to visit relatives....Boy did the seller have a fright when he was contacted and asked to remburse my friend and we did get full renumeration with a full apology off the seller....Just dont buy a white v-reg 1.6 megane with 3 wheels when he relists it.... :o ::) :P

I genuinely enjoy whisky... though it is something I must drink in moderation...  ::)

It's one of the reasons I like sailing the West coast of Scotland, if you feel cold stop by the local distillery and grab a wee dram or six :D

alll very interesting, but from a simplistic point of view, using a radio is a lot more simple.

You press a button on the side, and talk....

Phone? You have to unlock the keypad and either dial the number manually, press call or search your phone book, still hold it to your ear when you want to listen & talk, radio you don't, you only need to press the button to talk, so while getting info on bad guy 1, both hands are free, so whats the difference between pressing that, turning on blues and twos?

In an ideal world each cop car will have 2 personal, one as a radio man but due every penny being pinched, there is often only 1 copper...

You dont see many Police/Ambulance/Fire vehicles with only one occupant.  The passenger in the vehicle is the one who deals with Comms.

As for speeding...... I believe the Emergency Services have to adhere to a code which allows them to run Red Lights and exceed the speed limit BUT ONLY WHEN SAFE TO DO SO.

Back to topic.  Using a Mobile Phone when driving is proven to reduce reaction times and reduce the drivers overall concentration, even when using Hands Free.  I drive an Auto...... never use two hands on the wheel, so what difference does it make if I'm holding a Cell Phone, Sandwich, big rubber dildo in the other?  The ACT of talking to someone else is what makes the difference.  So, I also think we should be banned from carrying passengers in the car. LOLZ.

Absolutely right.  Talking on a mobile phone can most certainly break your concentration, as can fighting with the wife and kids or trying to eat a prawn mayonnaise sandwich without getting pink goo on your tie.

But when you're stuck in a stationary queue on the A14 for 35 minutes and the time of your job interview is rapidly approaching, what do you do?  Technically, you are still in charge of the vehicle on a public road, so unless you turn off the ignition, remove the key, get out of the car and walk away from it, you are committing an offence if you make that call.

I'm inclined to think the law is an ass in this area. :)

I like to think that, certainly amongst Her Majesty's finest I have been stopped by for various indisgressions, they use common sense.  If the traffic is stationary, and has been for some time (ie, ign off), that a quick call would not be punished.  Obviously, if someone took the piss, they should be strung up by the knackers.

All should be irrelevant though - easy enough to pick up a Nokia bluetooth carkit, eg CK-7W for around £30 from the 'Gay, and we all have the ability to fit one.

Absolutely NO rather EXCUSE WHATSOEVER!!
