PC Rebuild help required
« on: 25 January 2010, 22:42:42 »

P4 2.4 and all of our CDs are XP SP2 - which breaks P4s >:( >:(

I obtained an SP3 image, and used that - unfortunately it was not the normal MS image as I could not find one and MS only do the patches.

So problems are as follows

How do I change the licence number to the correct one for the PC as stamped on the CD booklet with the missing SP1 CD?

How do I fix the WinSXS stuff? WHat more is involved than copying the WinSXS off say my working home SP3 PC?

Thanks

Martin

Too much conflicting advice on the internet.

My boss tends to leave CDs on site.

Seems like I need to install a few C++ libraries.

I think it was dot net 2.0 SP1 I needed

The current issue is that executables created on my home PC explode with silly errors.

Got a few things to try then I will have to give up

Good point, well presented, though not a big issue, as surely nobody uses such poor hardware :P

XP SP3 causes an issue with a particularly rubbish onboard audio chipset which nobody in their right mind should use.

Or, if we're talking about Martin Imber's post, he is trying to bypass Microsoft's anti piracy features, and failing miserably.
