Any BT socket experts
« on: 28 February 2010, 12:10:30 »

I have had a ASDL V1.0 socket fitted with a  rounded top.

Through the post I have had an I-Plate insert

It doesn't look like I could fit both at the same time.

Which should be used please?

Thanks

Martin

Whats the I Plate insert for?

You shouldn't need anything other than the BT ADSL socket as you punch down the extension socket wiring inside it IIRC

if it is a built in filter then front plate should just unscrew off and replace it with the new plate

Forget the bloody iplate. It does little more than disconnect the ringing circuit (which is better done manually anyway).

It would appear than the SSF you already have is one of the best filters available, and is certainly what I use.

Ive just picked up an new set of dect phones for the father in law...

whenever his broadband router is turned on, there is a lot of 'modem' noise on the line IF and internal extensions are connected.
(tried all combinations of removing things and 3 different routers)

So unplugging the lot and having everything in the main socket.
Jobs a good un

Well, they are pretty much the best you can get!

Do you still get the noise with no ADLS filter and just phone being used?

the noise is there the second the router is switched on.

tried a variety of free and my good filters (left over from when I installed a faceplate splitter / filter.

just phones connected, silence...

router plugged into any socket, noise

phones plugged in, or not, but extensions connected, noise.

router and phone plugged into test socket, silence.

played for hours, gave up, and he has 4 shiny new phones.

may put him on a split faceplate as well now, but doesnt really matter.

ring wire already disconnected anyway (as per iplate)

I'm with MDTM, does sound like filtering.

Unless the router was radiating something that the cordeless phones were picking up via aerial?

So are you saying that when the whole setup is plugged directly into the rear plate ...its all ok?

In which case....it sounds like the  front face of the NTE5(x) is at fault

tried 3 different routers, all the same, not all wireless enabled, and different filters, so happy all those ruled out.

Fault has to be either faceplate, or dodgy wiring (most likely from what I have heard  ::)

So, if you plug the microfilter directly into the master socket and have just the router and the phone connected, does it occur?

master socket yes, as extensions connected (with no phones in, same if phones connected)

test socket, perfect (extensions obviously now removed)

JB, how many extensions in the house, excluding master NTE5?

Can you tell if they are star wired, or spurred off each other?
