Too much detail on the leather bits   [smiley=shocked.gif]

Further reading around the "belief systems cause wars" myth below for those interested.

A very interesting read :y :y :y

indeed....but phrases like:

"The new version of secularism, though, is every bit as bossy as its communist and fascist predecessors; it has become what I have called elsewhere the 'metanarrative of antimetanarrativism' and the 'absolutising of relativism' 2 — not simply a denial of meaning, but a denial to which all must submit."

the metanarrative of the antimetanarratism?  :-? :-? :-? :-?

answers on a postcard to the usual address  ;D ;D

I think much pain and suffering is done in the name of religion, rather than by religion. Extremists from all regions have, over the centuries, used religion as an excuse to overrule other peoples, with violence if necessary.

Religion was a good tool to keep the populous under more control - look at our broken UK soceity now, seeing as the majority are no longer fearful of their chosen God(s).  Some say some of the deeply religious Middle East countries are inhuman/barbaric (eg, Saudis stoning people to death), but it helps keep the populous mostly under control - a populous needs strong, defined, enforced punishments (including death penalties, public floggings and other painful punishments) to control the masses, and deter others from overstepping that line. It matters little if the enforcement is in the name of God(s) or local law.

Been following without commenting as rather surprised at some of the ill informed vitriol. It is a very hackneyed myth that religion causes most wars, extremism does however. Being ill informed creates a fertile field for extremism so beware of it.

I am a Christian, of the most ancient tradition. I usually keep that to myself but thought it pertinent - as I voted yes!

Peace.    ;D
religion does cause wars !!!!, believe in what you believe in ,keep it to yourself, dont try preaching to others and  the rest is as guy says BOLLIX !!!

The two greatest wars in human history, the 1914-18 Great War and the 1939-45 Second World War, were not caused by religion. ;) ;)

Thanks Cem :y :y :y

Yes, religion had nothing to do with those wars, but Empire building, false agreements and alliances, national greed, hunger for absolute power, land grabbing, devious and dishonest behaviour, , deception along  with pure criminal hatred had everything to do with them! >:( >:( >:( :'( :'(

something as "simple" as the omega was designed by someone, even where the coil pack was going to go.how can the human body and all it sees around it not be designed by someone? the omega was designed to get us from a to b in comfort, our existence, and what our "designer" had in mind for us should be the question? ::)
