Easy to answer

1.      A full engineer’s report on the scratch

You wont get one as they only have service technicians, not engineers

2.      An estimate of the cost of scratch repair

New panel, the anti reflective coating means they cant be polished out and very few have a replaceable glare filter.

3.      Confirmation that the TV functions correctly and that the hairline scratch does not affect the display in any way.

Will be interested to see what they say on this one.

4.      The company's write-off value of the television

As its a capital assett it would have been writted off after 3 years so the answer should be zero.

5.      An independent assessment of the equipment’s market value

Lol....

6.      Confirmation that I may view the television in person to confirm that it is currently in the same condition as when it left my property

Good idea.

as a qualified engineer with a proper degree and everything, it gets on my goat how every tom, dick and harry with a screwdriver gets to be called an engineer.......why not Doctor or Professor?  ;D :y
You want to try 'Consultant'.  You don't even need a degree!

I take on board all your comments, Mark. At the end of the day, though, I promise you that the scratch was shallow and invisible when the TV was on. Only in when switched off from a certain angle could it be made out. The main thrust of my argument in the letter was why they should consider a cosmetic defect worthy of writing the thing off (which is obviously what they are doing, though there is still residual value in it as it worked perfectly well).

I've paid this outfit a fortune over the years (I've rented from them since 1984).

I'm ready for a battle. ;)

Why did they have to repair it, I bet they didnt , but if you asked to see it it will mysteriuosly disapear - so rather than get caoght out, they squished the bill.  Nice result Nick, Shame people dont tackle these companies more often,  :y :y

On a similar topic, we had a disaster last year when the telly, cooker, washing machine and video all went pop during one week !!!! All rented except the cooker. We also had a Tumble dryer and Fridge on rental.
So I decided to do away with rental and go for buying new.

Contacted Box-Clever, who evidently took over from Radio Rentals and told them to come and collect the Washing Machine which was leaking at the back, and down the front and going rusty, and now had finally packed up.  >:(
Now...we had rented that machine for 11years, and to be fair nothing ever went wrong during that time. Rental costs were £2,200 over that time.  :(
Could not believe it when we had a phone message stating that we could buy the Machine outright for....£100  :o :o :o They said they did not really want to come and collect it !!!!!
My normally passive misses was on the blower, and did she have a go....Where she told them to stick it will not be repeated here.  :o
Then to cap it all we had another message saying the offer to buy would expire in 48hrs.  >:( >:(
We waited for two months for them to collect it after many phone calls...when two old codgers looking like those two old guys in the Muppets turned up in a beat up old Transit Box van. Had it not had a tail lift, there was no way they could have lifted it. Had to lend them my sackbarrow for them to get it to the van.
Box-Clever....total plonkers ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
