Daz is right that it has changed and I think we should have a day a week were pedants and PC obsessives don't log in, let people blow off steam and rip the back out of each other ;)

Doubt it would work though but I think some people need to chill out a bit as some of the pull up's lately have been school mam like! I for one love the place and people and am going nowhere! :y :y

I think if there is a General Discussion board on this Forum the members should be prepared to accept the many varying opinions expressed on it - even by those of us who have accused in the past of occupying the 'moral high ground'.

We are all different here, have different capabilities, a different view of the world, that fact surely must be accepted.

There has been some dancing around here for a while about the nature and style of the contributions from certain members (including me), I don't really take those posters on very much as there's no point in upsetting the general tenor of the Forum but if it's causing a particular problem let's get it out in the open - I'm not thinking particularly of the general subject of the OP more to the comments made by Chris.

If the General Discussion board is causing genuine problems for the moderators and other members then why not close it?

Okay, so I wasn’t around when the forum kicked off, so am not party to it’s history. Maybe someone could give us an insight as to how it came about?

Compared with some other forums I visit this one is brilliant, good natured and informative, and what better way to spend your lunch period than on here. I must admit I initially joined for the help facility after buying my first Omega, and found people on here always willing to offer help and tips where they could, but have discovered there is much more to it than that. Yeh, I think there could be a little less finger pointing and “I’m not wrong, so you must be” attitude by particular members, but by and large, it’s an exellent forum to be part of. :y :y

I think you're a gang of big tarts. When I were a lad, this kind of drivel was left to the lasses.

Now, where did I put me whippet?

Although I can understand the rationale behind the decision (too many being block posted), the establishment of the "Jokes" sticky has effectively removed the humour from the discussion area. I, for one, used to read all the jokes on here and have a good laugh, but now I keep forgetting the sticky is there and rarely visit.

Not an expert but I would agree with that Nickbat.  I believe they use carbon rods in nuclear power plants to manage the inferno.  When it's going too hot they push them in, when it's not pushing out enough Kilojoules they pull them out.  A few jokes interspersed can have the same effect.

(IMHO ;D ;D)

..and why has the "Inappropriate jokes" section only got 2 submissions?  Or have I misunderstood the title? ;D ;D ;D

I agree with Daz ---- my feeling is that the sense of "community" has dwindled.  Even in the old days (sounding like my dad now) we disagreed on many things, but we "agreed to disagree" and these minor ripples were left at the door.

Over the last couple of years I have thought "sod it I am off", but, much to peoples horror, I have come back ----- but that pull is dwindling fast.

And .... my skoda can't manage 5000 rpm, yet alone misfire at it (more Kaboom rally)  ;)

Speaking as a member here, the trouble with jokes in general chat was the frequency in which some people would post up a whole page of old jokes that had been posted a million times before. I became almost commonplace for the first page of general discussion area to be just crap old jokes.

From a moderation point of view, jokes frequently border or exceed allowed behaviour here - with any joke, somebody always has to be the brunt any joke.

In the early days though, I got the impression there was a group exodus from "the other place" where oof was born from. A place where presumably people wheren't happy and left to start there own forum here, and hence where happy again?

Those members being the core of oof, knowing they came here from a worse place, then gradually had to accept the arrival of other members unaware of the history and why oof was started in the first place....?

That being the case I think maybe Daz's initial post refers to...well, the way of things. A natural process, possibly as Lazydocker says?

I can't comment on the history as Daz mentions, as I said, I wasn't here. All that matters is the here and now, and the simple fact, you can't please all the people all of the time. Also as I believe Mark once said, it's not much of a forum of if we can't express views, opposing, counter opposing, or whatever.

....and Esty's right btw.   ;D

as a long distance member, I see the situation change from a different view..

as OOF belongs to this world  ;D  and combines us the mortals together, its not immune to economic and other problems/events around us.. in the last 2-3 years many people loose their jobs, some change positions and their lifestyle, many of them change their cars as they cant afford the costs anymore , some of them(including me) try to cut their costs and some lucky ones buy more expensive models.. :-/

and the general usual posters here mostly have ages above average normally discussing serious subjects that they have to deal with everyday including their health problems.. Looking at the picture those talks may not be amusing.. but imo thats what we are ..

meanwhile, sometimes I feel that the forums international position limits the posters talking and behaving freely about special subjects not to disturb or cause offences.. yep..not easy to satisfy all people from around the world from different countries and very different habits.. I see a similiar situation in summer vacation.. when Brits are alone they really enjoy ..but when foreign people enter their group they become more serious..but thats normal behaviour.. so its upto admins to decide for that :-/

Hi all - my mebership here I must admit maybe like a lot of others was driven by my introduction to Omega ownership that I had naively thought was going to be trouble free until it started leaving pools of oil everywhere I parked it..

However - I quickly realised there really is a sense of community on here and much much more than just a techy library of solutions to the infinite issues the 'mig is capable of challenging us with. It's also obvious that there is a vast array of experience and personalities on here with quite colourful stories to tell .. some popular - some not so popular
I think someone has already mentioned you're bound to get a cycle of input as peoples lives change and priorities fluctuate.
I'm not sure if I've detected a change or not - I'll be honest I dip in and out a bit myself (when I can get the kids off the computer) and chip in now and again. I've pml at some of the material on here and yes sometimes thought ...ooohh that's a bit edgy and subsequently watched it get a bit hot.......
The Admin on here - I believe are volounteers - so I have every respect for their time and effort it must take to keep tracks on a site like this and try and either referee or make a call on the nature of a post - but there have to be limits and we should respect that. Saying that though if you take a baseline of what you can watch on the TV comedy programs - there's quite a bit of flexibility there.
I'll be honest - there is so much stuff on this forum - especially in the General chat and the General Car chat areas I can't keep up with it all - so there must be something we're doing right that keeps us coming back and sharing random thoughts and observations - and as always there will be someone else who will have an opinion on it - which isn't that why you'd have posted it in the first place...
..maybe we could start the Omega wave when your'e out and about (like MG' drivers ?) - you've no idea who they might be - but it's the knowing you know they know you know who they are even if they don't know you.... :D.......

Anyway - I think it's great - don't change it - and I'll chip in now and again when I can get on the computer and get to meet some of you in the Oxford area from time to time.... :y

Cheers
Ian.
