I wasn't that impressed with the Samsung LED backlit TVs I looked at but can't comment on this model. Colours, particularly flesh tones, were a bit pasty even after tweaking it and taking it out of "chav mode", and viewing angle wasn't great, IMHO. I've also heard it's a bit of a lottery as to which panel you end up with.

I bought a Panasonic IPS-Alpha set in the end. Very happy with it, but then we all like different things. ;)

I personally like LG tv's, I did have one until the ex ran off and kept everything, but anywho, in my current house I have a 50" Plasma, I honestly find plasma is worse than LCD now, the LCD on the LG was a hugely superior picture.

Anyway not very impressed with the Samsung picture quality, or the quality altogether really, because to get the remote to work you have to and I'm not joking here point the control at the wall so it'll turn the TV up, if I stand directly in front of the TV the remote doesn't work. It's only saving grace is that it is 50" so it's big and it looks nice in my front room, although I am considering a newer LED tv soon  :-/ I'd avoid Samsung too, I know I certainly will be next time I get a TV.

UE40D5003 LED TV

that is quite an old tv now, but will have freeview  :y

i have the ue8000 which is superb, which has wireless capability to your router  :y
I'm interested if it has Freeview-HD, as there seems to be some conflicts.

I have no interest in gay crap facilities - I have a perfectly good Mecia Center under the telly that can do all that shite miles better - so my requirements are:

Freeview
Freeview-HD
Easy access to PC input from remote (a bugbear with my current Samy)
Pic/audio quality at least as good as my 3yr old Sammy (pre 'Series' model)

Nought. Only its not Freeview-HD.

Additionally, I have 2 other non freeview TVs in the house - dining room Sony piece of horseshit crap and our bedroom, which has a superb, 8yr old analogue only LCD - best of all of them. So Sammy will replace on of those, and an HD one will got in the lounge

I have just purchased an LG LW550T to replace an Samsung LE-M87.

I was always very happy with the Samsung and its still a great TV today to be fair, I agree with TB though the Samsung's Input Selection Menu's are rubbish. I would hope all new TV's including the Samsung's would be much better.

The LG is far Superior to the Samsung in every way though, a nice leap. Even has ISF modes for calibrating the tv etc.  :y

It has all the fancy "Gay Crap as TB puts it" And even though you may not need it, most tv's now are gonna come with it and it doesn't really cost a premium so why not have it.  :y

I don't have an issue with it, but I have no requirement, or likely future requirement for it, if you see what I mean. As long as it doesn't get in the way of core functions.

Think tech like this in TV's is almost default now, really don't think it gets in the way of core functions. I actually think it helps improve the UI of the TV making it easier to use and more pleasing to the eye.

My Samsung is now in the bedroom and although its still a great picture and the sound is better than the LG, the UI now feels like its from the dark ages. So slow and clunky  :y

I don't need a UI. TV's dont need one (except initial setup).  Something has gone badly wrong if we need prompting how to change channel, or adjust volume  :-/

A TV has a simple function. It should be a simple device. Thus, beyond initial setup, does anyone care how good/bad/basic/pretty the UI is  :-/

I'd rather development went into core functions (ie, displaying the picture and audio) than glitzy, gay, pointless functions  :-/

hehe, sounds like you need to just keep the Samsung you have then. If it does the job. Unless there is another main reason for changing I can't see why you need too  :y

Think I could be in the market for a 50 or maybe 60 inch tv next year for the extension.
