Anyone ever changed a reluctor ring on a Rover?
« on: 31 July 2010, 22:40:05 »

I have just failed miserably at the first hurdle - I couldn't even remove the ABS sensor  :-[

I would have failed at the 2nd hurdle as well, as I can't find my balljoint splitter  :-[

Unless anyone knows a way without removing the bloody hub?

And I've spent most of the day on it  :-[, apart from a brief chat with Auto Addict, which was a welcome break, seeing as I was looking for Sammy at the time ;D

Certainly the OSF, the ring is split, presumably thats what causes the ABS to constantly fire under breaking, which Mrs TheBoy finds somewhat disturbing....

Is it CV joint mounted (I guess it will be)

Split ring will cuase the ABS to fire every time you brake

Yup, mounted hub side of the CV.

Implication is you can remove hub, clean it up, then drift a new one on...

Or remove CV joint.....heat the new ring up on the stove.....it should just drop on (with a light tap, clean the face of the CV joint up well)

Aye, squeeks when he walks, that one...  Either way, an overnight at minus 18 or so will increase the normal tempt interferance fit tolerances.  ;D

Still have to remove the hub though?

Might have to get out the camping stove, assuming halogen hobs aren't ideal for that ;D ;D ;D

Have two Rover 25 diesels in the family, i've changed quit a few CV joints. You have to undo the bottom ball joint.

I bought these last time and they've been ok.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROVER-25-2-0TD-CV-JOINT-NEW-99-ONWARDS-/130358306961?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e59f5e891

My 25s haven't got abs so I removed the rings which come off really easy but don't know what they'll be like to remove after being on the car for a while.

I suspect the one one, being split, will pop off nice and easy. Probably need a lot of cleaning up to remove all rust from that area.

Bit reluctant to change the CV itself when its not showing any signs of needing replacement, and putting on a potentially inferior pattern  :-/ (hence why I bought the rings only)
