coil pack bolts
« on: 25 October 2010, 17:03:57 »

Hi all

When changing the plugs in my 2.2 i found that the 2 long bolts that hold down the coil pack rattled around, i pulled them out popped the coil pack out and found the was no thread for the bolts to screw down into just 2 large holes, is there meant to be something in them ? this is the first time i have looked under here so never noticed it before.

sounds like someone has stripped the thread?  :o  :-/

With the coil in the plug, its fairly secure, but not ideal. Maybe worth tapping a new thread?

can't tap a new thread as the holes are way to big, I was told it had some work done to the head before i got the car so could it be like said a 2.0 ltr rocker cover ?

Yup, sounds like its got a 2.0 top head on it, with 2.0 it was coil pack on the back, not coil per plug.

The bolts are only very lightly nipped up anyway, being a boding student i would just leave it  ;D

Whole head, the bolts for coil pack go into the head. The cam cover is just plastic...

I would never have thought a 2ltr head could go on a 2.2ltr lump, does this mean my car is a 2lr now not 2.2 ?

I've never had a proper look under the bonnet of a 2.0 or 2.2 car. If it did have a 2.0 head on it, then what would these stripped holes have been for if a 2.0 uses a separate DIS pack. ....unless someone drilled clearance holes instead of tapping holes in the replacement 2.0 head.  :-/

The head cannot affect the displacement of the engine...
