it has been serviced by me,with genuine gm stuffs, every 3200 miles or there abouts since work was carried out.sadly no ive not taken pics of the sealent!perhaps i should have.the cam seals were removed when new cams were put in!
i do not expect dealer service but just some decent it service, even to have said bring it up and ill have look and see.
perhaps i am being too picky?but i dont think i am.

Replaced with new? Genuine or pattern?

the seals were not replaced,i would however have done it if i new hey needed doingwhen cams were replaced.

Well since they are leaking 8k later, i guess they did need replacing  :)

I would not replace cam seals when changing cams, unless they were damaged. Used genuine ones are often better than brand new pattern ones.

If the cam cover seals have failed in 8k, assuming they were originals, I would be interested in the condition of the breathers.

i would like to say that there could be the slight possibilty you've mis-interpreted his reply when you asked for help after 8000 miles

along with many others, i cant see pete being "uninterested" in helping you, and to be fair, who's not busy at this time of year??

i went to test drive a car he had for sale, and in return, he gave a dent on my car a good seeing to without me even asking him to, he's a top guy

if he'd been less busy i really dont think he'd be giving you the brush off

8000 miles, i'd say there's plenty of mileage there to make a fresh problem appear

Quite a tricky one this! The quotes I got from Vaux just for a cambelt change was well over £500 by itself so you can imagine what that amount of work would have cost to get a maindealer type guarantee, probably in the £1000 range.

I doubt the maindealer would re do the seals personally.

Never really heard of anyone replacing those four camshaft seals on here, however, on both of the 3.2's i've had it was obvious that the outer (exhaust) ones needed replacing, both of these vehicles had less than 70K on them.

I think what happens is any dirt that happens to get there ends up acting like an abrasive.

OP says both Cam Covers and Cam Seals are leaking. No they are entirely different animals. Yes they can both leak.
Cam seals are circular & fit on sprocket end of cams.
Cam Cover Gaskets are shaped to fit the Cam Covers. :)
