Saw the Useless Student today
« on: 27 December 2010, 17:49:37 »

I needed a garage ;D

Joking aside, I desperately need a WIM trip, and needed to change a front hub aseembly first.

Tunnie just happened to be in today, and his folks have a convenient garage, so we spent the afternoon doing that.

The front pads were over half worn, so took the opportunity to slap a new set on (as Tunnie just happened to have a spare set).

It was quite nice to do a bit of spanner twirling, not done any for a while. And it was far nicer to do it in a (relatively) warm garage with his mum supplying copious quantities of tea, and have a good chinwag whilst doing it.

Cheers Tunnie :y

Funnily enough I did offer to tow him out of the local ice-rink, his close. I think the humilation might have been too much  ;D

I did consider going to see whats what, as he said he would be 'straight down' but took more like 20 mins  ::) ::)  ;D

I drove straight home and shoved it on the driveway. It will stay there until its trip to Chesham.  So no idea what the camber is like - although the back end did go decidedly sideways as I dropped off that viscious speed bump down Halse Rd.

The delay was more me going A over T emptying the boot  :-[ (which on reflection I shouldn't have - it still needs the weight over back wheels)

Though the Rover is still stuck where I abandonned parked it on Christmas Day

Interesting to see if it's sorted after wim. What's your money on? Hubs causing the problem? Or tyres?

No, I'm convinced something is broken, but I can't find it. It doesn't want to go straight.

My best hope is that I've clouted something hard, and knocked the alignment way out.

NSF has wear on outter shoulder, yet the camber (now buggered due to changing hub yesterday) looked not far off (visually)

Woo, no wonder it's a bit random. If not play or a setting issue,(which it probably is?) could the front be you on Milton Keynes roundabouts? Maybe ask Wim to dial in 1.20 camber or something like? They will adjust settings to the visible wear based on the settings at the time for nutterenthusiastic drivers  :-X

....but the rear? Just looks like too much camber to me...?  :-/

Never had this wear pattern before, and worked in MK for 10yrs. Most of the time, I use the A5(D) for commuting, so avoid most roundabouts.

I have had a lot of weight in boot for last couple of weeks, and 2 full fuel tanks as well.

You drove it a month or so ago, when it first started to misbehave - just felt like the steering wasn't attached to the wheels to me...

TB do you find it won't just sit in a straight line, sort of like when driving in a straight line your going left of right, and having to make constant adjustments to go straight? This is what I've had in the big beemer since the roadsweeper incident, and it flew through an MOT  :-/ Nothing moves underneath so it must be alignment  :-?
