What MPG can you get - this is really sad
« on: 15 July 2011, 01:01:19 »

[size=9]Saw this article http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1310116709 and it made me think. What displayed and calculated MPG am I getting from mine? and how the hell is it reading it and calculating it? ::) and how does it know if i am on LPG or petrol? (assume it's the air flow sensor thingy). Anyway .....

Soooo filled up with LPG, reset the trip distance and average MPG and drove around as usual. After 150 miles (urban) fill up again (40ltr) shock horror 15 mpg  :'(. Average says 17mpg close enough

This is the sad bit

This time determined to get better MPG with better driving. Reset again and set off this time watching the average .... and  missing a few green lights as it rapidly goes down whilst stopped  :o.

After a few miles get it back to 17, then 16 (bloody lights) then 17 and staying. 17.2, 17.5 17.7 god i'm getting good at this oh nooooo the lights are on red 16.9, 17 and so on and so on. Get the picture  :D :D

Got it up to over 19 :y on a good 15 min run with no lights & hills. But currently going between 18 and 18.2 (bloody rush hour & lights  :'( ) and yet to fill up again (will update if there is any +ve interest).

Yes i know the LPG wants looking at, it's booked in. Also know it uses some petrol that throws calc out but this is omega science not rocket  >:(

What can you get from yours?  Lets start a game  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Remember drive safe, dont use your mobile or watch your display whilst driving  ;)

My first meg was an ex plod mv6 on an M reg. On a long motorway run, averaging 75mph, the trip computer and my maths calculated 38mpg :)
Recently drove to my partners from Bristol to Poole, average speed was 35mph (lots of going from 30 to 50 to 40 to 60 to 30 etc etc) and trip now says 25.7mpg. Doing the trip again tomorrow so ill try and get a picture :)

I used to get 38mpg on a run in my 2.5 manual

It would do 28 on my old city commute and easily 22-24mpg is ragging it.

My 2.6 auto estate is a thirsty beast - only just over 30mpg on a motorway run and low 20's mpg around town.

my old 2.5 manual saloon used to give me figures similar to Mark's until near the end when we suspected the cat's were colapsing

The mpg on the display is the theoretical petrol equivalent when running on LPG. The computer doesn't know you aren't burning the petrol as the LPG system is just piggybacking off the petrol ECU.

I found the MID on my mini-facelift was spot on with several manual calculations (for petrol) but not checked the accuracy on the facelift.

For LPG, expect up to a 20% reduction in efficiency

Having, very boreingly, been keeping recods for 3 years of LPG running I can only agree here.

The MID on this one runs at an almost constant 17% difference to actual LPG use, prior to LPG conversion it was extremely accurate on petrol, so I have no reason to doubt it.

Figures change rapidly when done over less than 500 miles IMHO, so I tend to reset mine at "significant" times and run over several thousnad miles to try and get a truer picture. ... if I reset every time I put the van on the back the figures would be horrendous !!! A reset when I do an oil change seems to work ... the "distance travelled" then acts as a reminder for the next one.

Just my thoughts ... nowt else .. :)

All I know is that my old 2.2 used to get 320/340 miles out of a tank.

The 2.6 has yet to reach 300 miles on a tank, best so far is about 270.

Being sad, I keep records of my 2 Omegas since LPGing, and know what they returned before on petrol (and had checked the computers were accurate).

In the MV6, my average over many, many tanks of LPG is 19.5.  It seems not to vary much with driving style to be honest, but does obviously increase on a decent run.  The Elite is around 20.5mpg over about 5 tanks of LPG (I don't use it much ::)), although isn't driven as hard as the MV6.

What I have noticed, its much more economical over the tank if I use the full tank (obviously never completely use it, as running out of gas is a sin ;D).  If I refill when only half empty, I tend to get the silly 16mpg figures.  Not sure why, as you can't lose that much during the fill/disconnection process  :-/

My 2.6 gave a quite disappointing 28 mpg on a long run recently at about 70mph  :(

Autobox lockup doesn't happen until almost 50mph. You need to go faster than 45 :P

On petrol, in my 3.0l auto, I had to try really hard to get under 300m to a tank.  I guess it depends on your definition of how empty the tank is before filling ;)

I honestly think the non-DBW V6's give noticbly better economy than the DBW ones  :'(

both my 3.0 auto estate and my 3.2 auto estate give around 22 around town...I struggle to hit 30 with either of them without extreme care.

her 3.0 Manual estate gets about 24 around town, low 30's on a careful run.
