1614 just means the immobiliser has detected the wrong chip on attempting to start, can be as simple as its spotted another key.
this code doesnt auto delete so could be old.

Is the car running ok now?  if so dont worry about it.

if not, does your second key behave the same?

hi i was told the key was sending the wrong signal ive just had a brand new key coded to the car £120 , came out of work at 6am and it didint start again and the spanner light was flashing, took half hr 2 start turning on and off then just fired up and its fired up for rest of today only seems to do it when its been stood overnight?? both keys new and old do not seem to register when 1st put in after its stood for a while and again turning the ignition on and off eventually starts it, i was really hoping the new key would cure the problem

Right....

have you checked for new fault codes?

have you checked the battery voltage when having problems?

didnt you say it worked fine when jump started?

and please keep the problem to this 1 thread so we stand a chance  :y

age of the battery makes no odd if the alternater aint charging it right.

Im not saying voltage is, or isnt the issue....but it would be good to know what it is while the problem is evident.  Do you have a multimeter?

no havnt got a multimeter ive had it diagnosed on machine as been the CIM module ? can a 2nd hand part be used if i have the imob code from the 2nd hand part and my imob code? vauxhall wont comment on 2nd hand parts obviously but would really like me to pay £350 inc vat for the part and another £89+vat to have new cim module coded to car! iam at a real loss with it its a 2002 vectra elite so all the toys leather ect and ive about £900 tied up in the car is it justified in spending nigh on £450 to put it right bar theis fault the car runs faultless

Hi,
Just a thought. My previous Mig had the flashing spanner light, and the garage wanted silly dosh to change the main ECU, when others thought was it was just the key reader. However the garage had the tech 2, so controlled things. I ended up getting a complete set from a scrapper, ECU, Keyreader, and VIN and got the garage to fit and code a key. Cost a bit, about 100quid for the bits plus garage cost, but got me going.

So, it sounds like its the keyreader or whatever electronics that are intermittant/faulty. Its a bit strange, needing to get warmed up before working, but I don't understand the keyreader security system well enough to know what is going on. So assuming everything else is OK, eg battery, fuel supply, leads etc, a complete ECU/Security system replacement might be the easiest option.

Now, you might be able to get the complete set from a breaker, for example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Breaking-Spares-Vauxhall-Vectra-C-1-8-Facelift-2005-LPG-/270788934108?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0c4739dc  I am sure if you offered him a reasonable fee he would sell you the whole system, which wouldn't need coding. You would need to get the VIN and Reg of the donor it came off so that if you needed a spare key, you could get a car pass. Thing is if the breaker assures you it all works, then you should have no problems.

I bought a new keyreader module for mine (= CIM ), it only cost about 65quid. Programming it all in is a bit tricky, but......

PS What garage are you going to ?.

JCT 600 are usually helpful, and won't ( shouldn't) overcharge you.

hi, i put a part request out over the net for ecu, cim and key as i was told this is easiest way to sort it and cheapest without having to re-code anything but...
dixon vauxhall breaker at leeds say it can be done like this on the vectra c and i need the .
1.key
2.cim module
3.ecu
4.door solonoids
5.speedo clocks
6. another module somewhere
7.all 3 main fuse boxes
full kit £350 !

the cim module brand new from jct600 vauxhall is £350 with the vat, part only ive then to have have it fit and then coded which they charge £89+vat to code
i have found cim modules on ebay that are "tech 2 clear" although the part numbers dont match so no good for mine but do you by any chance have the equipment to code in a 2nd hand cim module if i can get 1 for mine that is tech 2 clear ? i have the vauxhall pass with immob code ect
cheers

also this morning i came out and it started 1st turn of key and its been stood since 6.30pm yesterday and i didnt go out to it untill 11am its normally at its worse when its been stood a long time so it really suprised me tbh as when it was stood for 8 hrs at work last week and i tried starting at 6am it took up to half hr to start clutching at straws but does outside temperature have an influence on any of it ??

Wow, I didn't know that all those parts are specifically coded to the car, in my case it was just the ECU and  reader, plus get a key coded.

I have a reader but I don't know if it can code modules successfully. Trouble is if it goes wrong, it may brick your ECU so I'd rather not try. There are several people around on the Vectra forums, with proper Tech 2s, but they will need paying for their time and when you add in travelling to them, it mounts up.

How about getting a tech 2 cleared module from a scrapyard and either (a) if scrapyard is local get them to program it for you, or (b) go to main dealers and get them to fit and program it, explain you can't afford a new one. That's what I did.

well after been on the net all morning the vectra going to jct600 wed morn :'( i can find the right part i want but they are'nt tech 2 cleared, yes its going to be way more cash at vauxhall as iam having them put it on a tech 2 to be 100% sure its the cim thats gone 1st. service manager at vauxhall has been very accomadating with the 3/4 phone calls ive made to him he advised me that while they will fit and program a 2nd hand cim module they cannot be held responcible if it doesnt work which is fair enough and iam then without a car aswell so maybe a cheap fix isnt the way to go on this? false economy and all that. Id be looking around £300 for parts ,fitting, coding ect for 2nd hand or £500 checking 1st then brand new cim module fitted coded and ready to go , you never know might turn out to be a cheaper fault ,hence the reason for getting it all tested 1st
Iam thinking the extra £200 will be worth it  :y
