Had a go at passenger side scuttle - got down to the cup but doesn't seem to be clearing. Are there any better photos on site other than in Maintenance Guide.?

Stripped the door card off the rear pax door to check the winder mechanism which behaved strangely last time it was used. Worked OK when stripped, but the cable and working bits were very dry. Lubed well with grease and re-assembled. Works fine now as well. A small problem when stripping, I had to drill a hole and use a screw to pull out the plunger release tab which would not come out any other way. :y

That's about as clear as a pic of that area gets... the drain comes out forwards at a 45° down angle beneath the large wiring grommet, rather than draining straight down.

Take a length of 30amp cooker cable, and bend it so you have a straight run of about 3" with a 45° bend in it. Feed this vertically down past the loom, next to the pollen filter, in such a way that the end is pointing forwards and down, it should then locate in the grommet. 3" should be enough that the end is visible between the loom and chassis rail on the engine side :y

Put the M3 back together .. now with working gearbox! Actually seems to shift better than it did before and "only" £400 in parts instead of the £1900 BMW want.. result.

Front disc and pads then broke the front pad wear sensor so had to go back out to buy one of them.

Thanks Al  - yes I saw the pic but the hole must be solid. It then poured down as I got into it so had to break off. Will look again.

Spent a frustrating day lying on my back attempting to change the handbrake cable. Was planning to change the cable, rear discs, pads & shoes. Was also looking out for the cause a a rattle that started last week.

Found that the heat shield over the final silencer rattles because it has rotted away around all the fixing nuts bar one. Attempted to fit an oversized washer behind the only nut I could reach & the stud sheared off while I was (very gently) trying to undo it  >:(

Moved over to the other side of the car and found that the end of the road spring has snapped off  >:( >:(

Eventually gave up on changing the cable because I couldn't get it passed the heat shields and I didn't want to shear all the studs :(

Going back outside to finish changing the discs before the rain starts now.........

Changed the broken front spring on son's Ka. Also replaced lower ball joint, which had to have rivets drilled to replace with Lemforder bolt on replacement. :y
