Jacked the Irmy Elite up today to have a rummage around underneath...

Established that the SL doesn't work even when manually activated, not surprising really given that the rear shocks came off in four pieces :o

So SL removed, along with springs and shock remnants, and replaced with Irmscher items... doesn't seem any lower, but then it probably wouldn't if the shocks were toast ::) Need to collect a few bits to renew the rear top mounts and rebuild the front suspension to taste.

Discovered the following additional issues...

Rear calipers have been replaced recently, non vented ones along with non vented discs ???

Has had a complete new exhaust recently... cat pipes look to be a bigger bore than standard ones, will take a few pics when next under it...  but whoever fitted the exhaust managed to cross the centre pipes to the back box, so they run vertically rather than horizontally next to each other, a side effect being that the right hand centre box has split all its hangers ::)

Diff is a bit of a mess, leaky pinion seal, but otherwise it pretty good shape underneath, so sorry Joff, but those bumpers are staying ;D

The last two days in have changed

Track rod arms, center steering bar, steering idler arm, anti roll bar bushes for polly bush,  front wish bones bush for polly bush, ball joints and top suspension mounts.

It's been a pain to do with a few knuckles hitting tarmac and a wet arse when it rained. But the car now feels and handles like a new car. Very pleased with the results.

Just got to get it tracked in the morning and then to decide what to do next.

Lots of work there  :y, don't go for just tracking though after all that lot has been replaced, needs a full Geo with someone who understands these cars better than just putting the settings 'in the green'.

Thanks for the advice, I've got it booked in at a company called christchurch tyres who have a laser alignment machine. Do I trust there computer that they have with recommend settings or do I tell them to do set it up to something else? If that makes sense  :o

Have a look at the Wheels In Motion website http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/ and contact Tony, his knowledge of the Omega chassis settings are second to none and he came up with the optimal settings for us - the GM settings are far wide of the mark as he will explain.

I have their settings on mine currently and it drives very well. Front tyre wear seems to be Ab issue though so going to ask them to take out some and even up front camber. My settings are on a thread from couple of weeks ago if you want to look.

Will be interested how you get on and if they will use the settings from here.

I can see you have a few small items to put right the same as I did with mine, only a few small things to do now and it drives like a dream. Looking forward to casting an eye over the estate you have.

Liberated a knock sensor from a 2.5 at the local scrappy.  :y

Got back and started stripping down to fit it and made friends with my alternator again!  ::)
