Latest. On way back from London 90-95 degrees. Low coolant light came on. At home, engine off, expansion tank dropped 50%. No apparent leaks other than seepage from cap?
New bottle and cap then  ;)

My second local Vx dealer said it was the cap (replaced) & that the tank is OK. No mention of HG. We shall see. Thanks for advice.  :y

I got the stupid filter apart and didn't break it!  :y  ::)  :D

Then I thought I'd just take a look at the Estate - exactly the same solid as anything and to add to the fun the oil drain plug is also solid! Do garages put these things on as tight as they can for fun?! Time to stop and have some wine!

Brilliant is what it is! I tried with various chain / strap devices but just slipped. I used mole grips to just nip it up and it held firm  :y

It will cope with that - held the body against my 18" breaker bar with me hanging off the end!

I'm not sure there is a location tab to be honest, but happy to be corrected?

They both seemed in perfect order so put them back on 45nm on the body nut and 15nm on the cap. Will see what happens in 6000 miles time. I had already ordered one spin on converter, but at £15 +vat even with TC I am not sure I need it.

Its one of those job that even if they stick again I can now do quickly with the tools I have.

Started clearing the decks ready for a rad/condenser swap and found a couple of crusty bits... Two holes later and I am done for the day. Will need to break out the grinder tomorrow in order to remove the self levelling pump bracket.

Christ alone knows what the previous owner did or didn't do to the car, but he obviously parked it in the Mancchester Ship canal ::)

Just read the reviews on the Halfords one, very mixed to say the least. I think i will stick to my ancient chain one as there is a fair amount of room on a Desmond.

May just be me, but I could not get either the socket or handle chain type to grip on mine - the tool linked worked perfectly. (with some gentle tightening with mole grips)

Replaced the fubarred TD intercooler fan with a SH one which works well through my manually switched cct. While doing so I put some fine chicken wire in the rubber intake to stop leaves etc. blocking the fan, which probably caused the failure. :y
