Job jobbed 8)

Got three months until the BM is due... trying to decided if I really want to drop the subframe and get stuck into rebuilding the front suspension or get shot...  :-\

Thing is, it's a clean car, a couple of parking dinks and a scrape on one arch, but no rust... scrubs up a treat, but the interior is horrific... blue cloth which no end of steam cleaning has helped with, and on a practical note the rear seats don't fold, making it quite limited... toss up between a tourer or an Omega to replace it though...

Better the devil you know?

Besides, it'd be a rare Omega that's completely rust free now. :-\

True, but the E39 is no newer and pre facelift ones dissolve as quickly as any pre 2000 Omega... they are better built though...

Could pick up the Tourer I have my eye on, fix what it needs plus a service, change the sump and level sensor seals on mine, service/MoT it and get shot...

Then if the Tourer looks to be trouble, wipe its arse and chuck it out the door and buy an Omega and a holiday with the change...

There are two issues with the saloon one is the seats they just won't clean up and I miss heated, electric leather, tother is that the rear seats don't fold down, making it rather impractical... wouldn't be an issue if it had a towbar... but it doesn't.

Sounds like you are keen on E39, look for tidy 540i?

It's about to get a real deep clean as it's gone a grey colour and it was green this morning.
Pleasingly it's clean on the inside 😊

In a word... Budget... A nice, late low mileage 540I Touring is £6-8k... Even an earlier saloon needing work is well over a grand :o

For £3-500 ish,  you can buy: a 525i needing work, an Omega needing work or anything else needing work...

Generally the E39 will need a rad and breathers/oil seals... The Omega will need a cambelt, wishbones, Camcovers, geometry and most likely, tyres, plus everything else that the last four owners have neglected...

Bearing in mind that several of the Omegas on ebay have been for sale for over a year at £7-895, a similar age/condition E39 will sell for twice that...

The conundrum is simply that the Omega is a familiar beast that I have a soft spot for, whereas the E39 is much nicer to drive... Day to day running costs are identical... Same economy, same tyres, same insurance, parts are a touch cheaper for the BM too :-\

My thoughts exactly, but you don't have to be a mum to have a mum bus. Just ask TheBoy.. :-X

True, but in his, somewhat limited, defence he really wanted a shed or a Transit,  but Sue said no to the Transit and the Zafira was cheaper than a shed... :D

Besides, he doesn't like the Omega estate ::)
