 looks like i will need a little high build primer or fine surface putty too on closer inspection , most will mop away but i'll paint and lacquer the whole bumper , it had dull paint above the number plate anyway , glad I didn't sort that yet , just hope that this is the last time someone hits my bumper , they say it comes in threes , this is the 4th  ;D

Found out the V70 is covered by the MoT lockdown exemption so has leapt forward to being "tested" until next January.However I'm going to book it in next week for an actual test.I realise that should it fail it would then be untested,but I'd sooner know one way or the other for peace of mind.

Went on a 35 mile round trip to refuel TBE  >:(, and gained a big red battery light to keep the EML company.

Need to decide whether to repair it or not  :'(.  Shame I've just filled it with gas ;D

Filled the MV6 up with fuel, ready for my work colleague to go on a parts collection run to Sheffield tomorrow. It needs a long run.

Its been a while, but Im pretty sure I replaced it with the alternator still on the car.

Is that duct just the elbow from airfilter to the MAF, or do the bagpipes need to come out?  I'm going to struggle to get car lifted much if I need to get underneath due to space constraints during the sniffle thing, as my neighbour and I have 6 vehicles on the driveway.

I just removed the pipe to the air box so that I could see what I was doing a bit better (not the bagpipes). It would be very very tight changing the regulator in situ, if it's even possible at all.  You only need to be underneath to disconnect the multi plug and a nut. The rest is done from the top by feel. It's still a tight fit coming upwards through the engine bay but definitely won't come out the bottom as there's not enough space. The irony being it's a two minute job once out.  :y

I think I started doing mine from underneath, but ended up doing the whole job from above on the other car...


Swapped from plod one when the black one failed on way home from the MoT ::) New one dropped straight in from above.  :y

I have needed to replace several alternators over various Omegas and all due to failure of the regulator pack.

Agree with above that replacing it in situ isnt really an option unless you have hours of time/patience of a saint and the ability to get the car fully into the air so you are looking directly at the back of the alternator ,and even then unsure if its a job worth tackling from there.

Alternator really needs to be removed which isnt such a bad job and 90% done from above just the main wire retaining nut and smaller connection which are quite reachable with the 2 main locating bolts removed to allow for some wiggle room

You don't need to do anything from below, just pop the fixing bolts off and rotate the alternator forward so you can get to the wire fixings  :y

Not looked overly hard at it, but I need to look harder for the 2nd bolt.  Presumably like the lower torx bolt?

I can see now, once unbolted, it can rotate upwards and come out in front of the engine.  Presumably there is sufficient slack on cables (2? Main batt and a field wire?) to lay alternator on undertray to detach? And is it a connector or the more common nut on a stud?
