Its not *that* common, BTW, but obviously when it happens, its splattered over forums.  Said engine - crap plastic mouldings aside - is considered pretty bombproof in Jags. And economical.

I think it's common in badly maintained Disco's and not just the Disco 3's 2.7TDV6, but the 3.0TDV6 found in the Disco 4 as well. 

Have a look through the ads for Disco 3's and you'll see plenty with interplanetary mileages

They are a nice engine, despite being mostly French.

Isn't the straight six purely JLR, being a modular addition to their four cylinder engines? The same way that BMWs 3,6 and 6 cylinders are all inline instead of a mishmash of straight and vee motors.

Now I should know this......but it was circa 12-18 months ago (could be longer as I am losing track of time thanks to Covid disruption)

Igenium has been developed to 3, 4 and 6 cylinder lumps in petrol and diesel plus they are mated to PHEV setups also (all are MHEV).

Should have a 6 cylinder petrol PHEV this weekend for testing (new Range Rover - about 80 miles electric real world range), 500ish bhp, the 400bhp petrol is also very good

3.0 had extended oil intervals to appease the lease market, which as we all know never works on any engine.

That said, there has been nearly 4 times as many 3.0s made as were the 2.7, so that also falsly skews the numbers

Started prepping the Boxster for MOT. Started removing one of the rear calipers, which are held in place by a pair of 12mm diameter hex bolts.
One bolt came out without too much effort. The second could only be moved using a two foot breaker bar and all my weight / might pushing on it.
Got to a certain point and then the head wrung off the bolt. Christ knows how I am going to get it out now.
I think I might have to remove the hub so I can hold the bolt in a vice and then unwind the hub from the bolt.

Porsche learnt how to do that from their Audi cousin. Or they found a stash of British Leyland spec bolts.
