I drove an Audi Q7 with cameras instead of door mirrors. The screen for them was positioned at the edge of the dash by the A pillar. At the end of the journey I still hadn't got used to them as I constantly instinctively glanced where the original door mirror would have been - I think they would take a lot of getting used to, and I don't get the point of them? More to go wrong I guess....

They are a gadget which arrived and died a quick death on cars  :y

The latest "thing"[being led by Volvo apparently :-\] is to do away with the rear window and rely on using a rear facing camera mounted on the roof for any rearward vision.

Sick looking at sons filthy Civic outside the house. He doesnt see the point of having a clean car so doesnt wash it.
I washed it today and it came up lovely. Very shiny black.
I then tidied out and vacuumed the interior as I was fed up wiping my feet when I got out of it.
Was he full of thanks ? was he f............... ::)
Wanna do mine?

Yep, no problem. As long as your here in the next half hour.  :y ;D

Quite a few doing that, I guess its no worse than a van or a bigger estate car (or a car with three in the back).

We have had smart rear view mirrors (which you can switch between the camera and a normal mirror) for some years, they are generally ok but, there are times when the camera cannot cope with the light conditions so definitely not the full solution.

Aerodynamics? Fuel saving?

Fuel saving is about 1 egg cup full a week. I haven't spoken to any HGV driver who has said Cameras are Good,

Indeed. At least with a mirror your view changes as you move, so if you need to see something just out of sight, moving your head/body gives you half a chance of seeing things.

I bet the cameras don't track your movements to adjust the view :-X

Finally got around to fitting the uprated engine fan to TPC.

Technically it has to be done when the tow bar is installed... Standard fan is 600W, uprated one is 850W and a larger diameter. Fan was sourced a month ago but needed an extra harness to make it work which finally turned up today.

It needed changing anyway as the controller on the old fan had failed so it was randomly switching on full chat just because it could. You could hear it across the carpark  ;D

Hopefully that issue is now fixed, but if it isn't at least it will be significantly louder >:D

Wild guess, Loch Lomond.  :-\   What’s going on, you’ve cleaned the Jag.  :o :o ;D
Up above Fort William (mostly hidden over edge of hill), so Loch Linnhe.

All undone in about 3 seconds of driving like a merchant banker. ;D (It's an Audi, after all).

Had a result today at, surprise surprise, Halfords Autocentre Ashford.

Normally use the local branch of Protyre, but they have run out of stock of Pirelli 235/45R17 POWERGY 97Y tyres, which last time in September 2024 cost me £120, before that £133 in 2023.  They said also the prices have "gone up and up" ; a warning of perhaps what I could expect when they get stock in.  So went to the Halfords Autocentre across the road, which normally I avoid due to the reviews on the OOF!

Halfords said they had plenty in stock, and could fit etc for £110.99.  Had one fitted by a great group of guys who were loving the Omega and appreciated it's worth..  One of them even said he had a car (which I cant now remember as he was speaking to a colleague), for which parts were now often "unavailable" and used Autodoc like me.  Had a great chat and before I knew it, tyre fitted and I was on my way.  But not until I got info from the manager about a local auto box specialist who could resolve my issue with the ignition key capture, as explained in my other post.   He said my issue was "very common with autobox vehicles" which he explained was an electronic, not mechanical issue, between the ignition barrel and the gear box reverse system that this other company would quickly resolve.  They also specialise in German built cars. Great, as I have decided against me mucking everything up by touching it with my limited skills in that direction, as advised by the good folks on here, and it all creating a bigger issue!

So, great result all round! 8) 8) ;)

after it was mentioned before i went and checked on mine . my ignition switch clicks round to its final position and pops forrward like it should and key removeable regardless of gear lever position so mine must have this feature disabled ! cant see what use it would be anyway ?

I had a pair of tyres fitted at my local Halfords centre a few months ago and they also fawned over my Omega.
"unusual but nice to see a real proper car these days" was the general tone. Prices were as good as anywhere else, and I really am to old and worn out to fit them myself now.

The latest "thing"[being led by Volvo apparently :-\] is to do away with the rear window and rely on using a rear facing camera mounted on the roof for any rearward vision.

I believe the new Jaguar has something similar.

Perhaps LGBTQ+ customers like this idea.
