Had to press the Countryman back into service as the Yeti is playing up, bloody emission stuff. That Omega engine is sweet and sounds the mutts nuts with the straight through silencers!!

Many years ago I owned a Rover 3.5 SD1 Vitesse TP. Just before we were due to go on holiday, it blew a hole in the centre box of the exhaust and was blowing badly. We were skint back then so as a temporary measure I cut out the middle box and welded a length of oversize pipe in its place to bridge the gap. When I started the engine the burbling V8 sounded the mutts nuts with just the rear box, so I never bothered to replace the exhaust system. It even went through future MOT’s like it.  :y

The 190 BHP Vitesse lump made the V8 Rover lump quite quick. :y

It was good for around 135mph. The car was classed as years ahead of its time, but unfortunately the rust appeared years ahead of its time as well.   ::)  Door bottoms due to poor drainage and rear arches were really bad. The engine never gave me any trouble at all, providing the breathers were kept clear, otherwise they could develop crank pressure.
Mine was Moonraker Blue and had the ten function computer display with average speed, average mpg and ETA etc. on it. On a late night run down a motorway, my 240 mile journey ETA was two hours and my average mpg at that speed was …….. 6.  ;D  No, I haven’t missed a digit out, it was just 6. Jeez, did that thing like to drink.  ;D  It’s usual mpg was around 16mpg, although it was just a gimmick back then so presumably completely inaccurate.  :-\

My diesel grandland does about 50mpg around town, and 60 on the motorway. If I decide it might need a regen, and the opportunity presents itself, I can thrash it around the dual carriageways around here for 15 minutes or so. This drops the mpg to around 42  ;D

Sods law, the day that UPS finally delivered the two door cards for TPC from Spain, a seller in Germany listed a pair in the correct trim combination to match my interior... ::)

And unlike the Spanish ones which still required sourcing the wood trims, the German ones are complete.

Obviously bought them, so checked, cleaned and repacked the Spanish ones and listed them back up for sale.

Always had a soft spot for the SD1 with a V8 lump of Detroit under the bonnet. :y

In 2025 it's hard to believe how badly many cars were thrown together in the seventies and eighties. :-\

I wouldn't let the ones from Spain leave your possession until you've actually got eyes on the German ones.

I borrowed one of joshwyatt's Range Rovers one weekend, and managed over 2 tankfuls (well, not quite, make that 2 £100 fillips due to the £100 limit on pay at pump) a 8.6mpg.

And I wasn't even gunning it that hard. Well, not all the time.

This bloody Tipo has a drink problem as well.  Might be related to the fact it stinks of petrol when waiting at traffic lights, rather than its ability to get it into cylinders.

Ran over something on the Dual Carriageway at 5am.
3 miles later pressure warning, parked at destination to hear hisssssss.
So wheel swap, glad I've a spare.

Fronts just under half worn
Rears have a Couple of months before replacement due.

Wheels are tatty, laquer peel etc so may well be the time for a refurb and 4 new boots.

I wouldn't be without one, those pointless bottles of glue just don't work. Another stupid EU decree. Theoretically, you will use 2 gallons of fuel less, over the lifetime of your car, if you don't have to carry a spare around.
