Started it for the first time in 7 weeks. No issues to report.  :y

Fitted a new battery. Car had been garaged for about 3 weeks over Christmas when I noticed the door locks were very sluggish to open, so put the battery on the charger which went right to current limit of 8A.

Turns out that with no load and the car in the garage, it had lost 50% capacity in just 5 days.  Checked quiescent current and that was less than 50mA after settling down, so no problem there. Alternator charging to about 14.7V so that’s OK too.

Battery was 6 years old or thereabouts, so about right I guess.
Anyway, all good now!   :y

so put the battery on the charger which went right to current limit of 8A.
Nothing actually wrong with that, as 3 weeks of 50mA had taken a bit out of it.

They key is how long it takes a high current for - the longer the better, as that's an indication of it's capacity. Making it over simplistic, on a 80Ahr  battery (cant remember what Omega is? 74Ahr?), from totally flat (ignoring that would shag the battery), 8A would be needed for 10 hours to get 80AHr back in (yes, that's massively over simplified).

Again, overly simplistically, that 50mA drain will take:
0.05A x 24hr x 21d = 25AHr
from the battery.

That's quite a lot, and will reduce the capacity of the battery each time you do it. If it's a regular occurrence, consider a battery conditioner you plug in every time you park up for more than a few days.

I understand your logic there.
Sod’s Law would have it become too drained to start because I forgot to put the charger on, and I need to get somewhere urgently!

Just feel more confident knowing it’s in tip-top shape.
I’ll monitor the state of the new one over time and compare.

Cheers for the advice.

Oh, at 6 years old, the old battery would be getting tired anyway.

If you still have it, worth charging up, and if it's any good, keeping for that emergency

Cracked the screen.  Apparently it was a stone on the M40, and she said it made a massive bang ;D

I'll see if crack grows, if not, will likely leave until better weather.  The crack seems to be on the inside of the screen rather than outside, unusually.

Left it at Heathrow Airport, while I've flown off to Prague for some important meetings beer drinking with my CZ colleagues. Interested to see how much battery charge will be lost from Sunday-Thursday and not being plugged in. I've disabled pre-conditioning for the morning, as that won't be needed.

So far after 24hrs it's on exactly the same percentage.

Biscuit was nice enough, should be a proper meal, that's what BA was always known for. Now it's barely any better than Easyjet.

Flying American in a couple of weeks to the states, interested to compare American/BA Premium Economy. Hope I get their newer setup they have been rolling out.

With the features switched off, I'd expect no impact of charge level over a few days, as it's only powering alarm, entry system and telematics really.

Been a lurker on Tesla groups, when they were on the short list. There is a 'phantom' drain issue there, but I think it's due to all the cameras and sentry mode etc. Not unheard of for considerable amounts eg 20% of power lost in a week. Other functions like a climate over product to cool if car gets to hot etc are on by default.

So far the i4 is just like a normal car just that the power plant is electric. None of this pointless Tesla style EV extra functions.

I wouldn't bother with World Traveller Plus tbh, especially on the A350, but our new Club suites are nice and pretty accommodating for us taller people. If you can upgrade for another couple of hundred dollars it's worth doing. Can't speak for American.

I don't disagree regarding food on the longer short haul flights, flying Club Europe is does offer some value for money in this regard as long as the fare isn't too stupid compared to economy... The vfm equation boils down to the extra 41 kg of baggage, lounge access both ways, including arrivals into T5, food on board and unlimited drinks on board. Plus a guaranteed empty seat next to you.

Philadelphia is nice enough. Plenty of small breweries and a decent food court down town. Plus the Rocky steps if you get time. Take a coat though, it's a bit Japanese...

Sentry mode will always eat power (it uses the ADAS processor which is a water cooled monster), other than that it should be circa a 50mA 12V drain which can either be taken from the 12V battery or from the traction battery via the DC-DC, but, it will be pretty insignificant on range/percentage calcs
