« on: 27 July 2010, 00:13:36 »

couldnt post in the wanted section for some reason ? looking for a selector switch for a 3.0 v6 1996 elite auto. took my selector switch off and cleaned it but the white plastic (insides of the switch) is cracked beyond repair. or if anyone could tell me any other models that the switch could come off of and fit mine ? thanks

You have the 3.0, you have an AR35, so any V6 Petrol donor will do.

EDIT: Only the Diesel has the AR25, and even that might be the same.

Where are you?

They are all the same whether AR25 or AR35 regardless of fuel used to propel them

I need to clarify this for myself.

So only the 3.0 and 3.2 has the AR35?  I thought the 2.5 and 2.6 had it as well?

I know the silly 4pot engines had it, I was only talking about proper 6cylinder engines.

to my knowledge gained here and thru work on them,  the AR25 went on the 4 pots and the 2.6 v6,  the AR35 went on the 3.2

if a 3.2 packs up, the ar25 isnt strong enough for it, so only an ar35 will do.

however if you have a 2.2 or a 2.6 the ar35 from the larger 3.2 WILL work, just change the final drive donut (one nut bolts it to prop).

as for 3.0 autos,  i know a 3.0 auto box WILL work on a 3.2 but not entirely sure if a 3.2 AR35 will work on a 3.0 mv6 or not.

doesnt quite solve your query, but, for a fact the ar25 wasnt for a diesel, it went in the 2.2 2.6 also.

regards.

Can I ask - I think my selector switch is on it's way out.
Symptoms:
Most times (since Tuesday), after 15-20 mins, the spanner light comes on, and the 'box stays in top gear.
It still revs up OK and can reach illegal speeds, so I don't think it's the limp home mode being employed
I can use the gears manually, but it clocks a bit when moving up from 1st to 2nd.
did it again coming home tonight, stopped for petrol (ten mins max) got back into the car and all is well again.
Twice, it's been fine, so I'm wondering if it's either the switch becoming worn inside, needs some white grease or simply a connection/wire with a break in it.

Car: 2001 MV6 2.6 estate.

Any ideas on the most likely cause?
