Thought they quoted you £501?

I notice the theiving bastards have charge full whack for the parts.

Of course, more than willing to assist with the actuator for the climate control :)

they did quote me £501 TB !
but, i added a few more jobs that i wanted doing, so i kind of expected the "extra" but just not as much as that!!

i suppose i could have bought a new car!! ...........errrrr..........maybe not ey?

beside all that, the car flys now!!
nice and smooth etc

will i have to check the fanbelt in about 1 - 2 weeks?
someone told me that as its a new belt it will be tight and then become looser again, hence it needing tightening up soon?

TB - can i come over in the next couple of weeks? be good to get that "attenuator" sorted please buddy  :y

No. The 'fan belt' tensioner is an auto tensioner. I don't know whether I'd have cried or what if I'd ever been presented with a bill like that for my car. You should buy some tools & a Haynes & learn how to do it yourself.

Andy - im not a man of Great Wealth, had to dip into my savings, im NOT mechanically minded whatsoever, i have a Haynes Manual and to me its like reading Arabic  >:(

after spending all that money, i take it the jobs that have been done wont need doing for a very long time
by then i HOPE to own a 3.2 V6 Omega (instead of an Estate)

my point is that these cars cost a lot of money to run, IF you can do the jobs yourself, all well and good i suppose

i already shopped around and had even dearer quotes
and you need a special "vauxhall" tool for doing the Cambelt i here?

didnt want to take it to some backstreet mechanic and have hassle trying to get him to honour his work IF anything went wrong

anyway,  i just saw this and i want it immediately!!   :'(

........

You need a cam locking kit & a 30 mm ring spanner, & there are more than enough OOF members that could've lent them to you. I have one some where in the Manchester area! ::)  ::) Water under the bridge I suppose  - it couldv'e been worse .... it could've been my credit card paying for it!  ;D  ;D  ;D

No good crying over spilled milk Andy ;)

Shame you couldn't have waited until the weekend Wayne, seeing as you're only up the road, I was only gonna charge you £60  and a few beers if you supplied the bits (about £150 worth) :-/

I have the locking kit for the cambelt, and I bet I'd do at least as good a job as vauxhall.. I'd have even thrown in an oil change for a tenner or the oil!

Ah well, next time, plan it before it's due.. :y

Either way, at least you can now drive the car without having to worry that you're on borrowed time, I'd recommend getting the absolute most out of it now  :)

Yes, no problem.  Let me get my cylinder head swapped over this weekend, then I should be free.  If the weather is looking naff, have a word with LFF64 for 'shelter' ;)

Wayne,
Don't want to burst your bubble but look out for one thing. VX usually fit the cam cover gaskets dry. This means they do not apply sealant as detailed in the Haynes manual. This can lead to oil leaks in as little as 3000 miles. Every other month, pull out a couple of plug leads and check that no oil is starting to collect in the plugs. Just a hint.
