COOLANT PROBLEM!!!!...HELP
« on: 23 December 2007, 11:37:22 »

Check coolant came on last nit on the MID, so about half hour ago checked the tank and it was empty, nipped down to the garage and bought some Comma coolant to top it up with, topped it up to the level, I have just been for a short run up to peckham, less than 2 mile round trip, now got steam coming from the engine bay, looks like something is leaked from underneath the engine but can't see where it is coming from.

Find it unusual that after getting it back after lamda's getting done yesterday I have no coolant left :-/

Could there be an air lock in the system???

Some pics:

HBV is on the bulk head behind the cylinder heads right above were your leak is coming from if your loosing that much coolant should be obvious anough if its leaking and unless you have arms like match sticks you`ll need to take the scuttle panel off and have a decent pair of pliers its abit fidderly but straight forward anough.

The valve it's self has prob packed up mate, just remove the scuttle pannel and have a look and see if it's leaking.. might be the valve or might be a hose..
Take a look when the panels are removed...

i too have coolant leak on 2.0 16v 1996 loses about 1-2 lts of coolant after 5-10 miles or so with bonnet closed steam seems to be coming from the drivers side front where expansion bottle sits, when releasing the cap seems to be a lot of pressure no sludge or mayo on engine filler cap or dipstick  :-?
