Turns over but won't fire? HELP!!
« on: 28 May 2008, 11:48:46 »

Hoping to god someone can help me as I'm at my wits end. Just got another Omega (2.5 V6 CD T reg manual) and 3 weeks after it won't start  >:(

Went out this morning, the engine turns over, there seems to be power ok but the damn thing won't fire. Was fine yesterday and nothings happended recently to suggest something like this was going to happen. The only thing that had happened is that we had very heavy rain over the past couple of days.

I would really appreciate any help  :-[

If it is 19 then the crank sensor is furbered, but do the paperclip test first, im only guessing ;)

The crank sensor is a common cause of this problem with Omega's.

*If* the crank sensor needs replacing is it expensive and could I do it myself being a novice?

Sounds like same prob as i'm having but i got a code 74.

Try removing pipes leading to inlet plenum and see if it starts.

Mine does doing that.

Going to try another MAF sensor when it arrives.

There are two different sensors and it depends on the shape of the plug and its easy to do :y

It's dead easy, there is a guide on here.

Flash the codes, first...

OK, just followed the instructions but just got a 12 then 31, did it three times to check and same again.

So is this a good thing or bad thing?

I would expect a code 19...

Is fuel getting through - fuse 18 ok?

Code 31 is crankshaft sensor (no signal) opposed to code 19 - crankshaft sensor (incorrect signal).

It says on the list:

31   No Engine RPM Signal

I thought that was normal if the engine wasn't running?

A 12 and 31 are normal if the engine isn't running.

Later cars do not show the tell-tale 19 code.

If the car turns over fine but with no sign of a spark the prime suspect is the crank sensor.

Cost about £50 for the sensor. Fitting 30 mins if you know what you're doing. Otherwise you'll spend a fair while locating the sensor and connector.
