whats the biggest possible donut tank
« on: 13 November 2008, 21:56:44 »

that will fit in the spare wheel well. I have been given 2 options, both 650 diameter, but one 240 mm wide 67 litre and the other 220 wide 61 litre. Obviously im hoping the bigger one fits. Does anyone know for sure before i order it. Tia. :-)

Chris, you can just make a false floor and raise it the 20mm or so if required... Not too hard to do.

Unless yours is a saloon...??

Yes it is a saloon, Sorry, really should have made that clear from the start. I need the through space from the boot to the rear seats so the tank has to go in the upright wheel space on the left. It looks like it will fit after a quick measure. But with the hight of the boot lid to the floor i think it will have to go in at an angle in twisting motion when fitting
As the rear wing is in the way, if you know what i mean. Fairly sure the "space" is big enough, but can it be twisted in to that position?

And that's the million pound question!!!! ;) ;)

Sorry I can't be more helpful... But do let us know the results so we can add it to the "LPG Database" which is growing rapidly! :y :y

Contact Sassanch

He has fitted a donut tank in the spare wheel well and can advise as to the max size etc.

I know it makes rear bulb changes a little more complex (but not impossible)

Consider access to the tail lamps etc on that side too. Even the spare wheel gets in the way when you're changing lamps.  ;) :y

personally i would not be worried about changing tail lamp bulbs, i have had my car over 3 years, not one bulb has gone anyware on the rear.

Just to be safe just fit brand new ones while its been done  :y

If you use polyflex hose for the connections to the tank, and ensure there's some slack somewhere, light bulb changes won't be an issue IMHO. Could always replace with LEDs of course...

When I was considering one of these I came to the conclusion that it was very difficult to say if a tank would fit without seeing it. Maybe have a word with Teilo and see if he's got some you could offer up? He's unlikely to have the vertical ones in stock, but a horizontal one of the same dimensions would be just as good for measurement purposes.

Failing that, find a wheel of the same approximate size as the tank and try it for size.

You might find you're limited to a multivalve tank with a vertical toroidal. Bear in mind a 3.2 will be on the limit of what a multivalve will flow so you might have to set it to switch to petrol at high RPM. No big issue, just worth bearing in mind.

Teilo was talking about some new multi-valves he was trying to get which were good for 270+ bhp! As for switching at high RPM... I've done this anyway to overcome the hesitation between first and second with a planted right foot! ::) ::)

TBH it's so rare I take it up to 5300RPM plus it doesn't bother me but I must get some live data and send to Teilo... He wants to try and work a solution for the issue.
