help with 'V' reg 2.0 Litre petrol Omega (auto)
« on: 09 March 2009, 17:16:41 »

Can anyone offer help?
My engine is making horrible noises!
for a while my car has started ok and run ok for 15 - 20 mins and then has lost power and the EMU light comes on. The car still drives but pulls away very slowly from stationery. If after a while I stop the engine and re start, the light goes out and stays off and the car drives ok for as long as you like with no prob.
I have had a diagnostic done with a Snapon tester and it says there is a fault with the crank circuit.
I have just tried to start the car while it was a bit warm and it is really rough starting and making horrible rattling noises. Any idea what the noise might be, I was arranging to get the sensor replaced but the man I use is away at the moment so any advice would be welcome.

Cheers

with 2.0's its either the cam or crank sensors, just replace and all should be well again. Use geniune sensors.

thanks for the quick reply but it's the horrid metalic rattling that worries me - do you think  the sensor could have fallen apart?

Its possible, the cam sensor actually sits between the 2 cam sprokets, its possible thats fallen down or something and its rubbing against them.

Thats easy to check, just pop off the cambelt cover, or just remove the black ecotech strip, the sensor is at the front of the engine, you should see a wire popout out the fron the black strip.

I would have thought a dis lodged cam sensor would cause horrid noises, i think the crank sensor would just make a rubbing noise  :-/

But then again i am no expert

Cheers for that info, it makes me feel a bit better. If the crank sensor is buggered, how easy would it be for me to replace it myself? - (trying to save some money)

if you have metallic noises, start by checking the state of the cambelt tensioners!

Yep, check the cambelt and tensioners.

And do a paper clip test and post up the REAL fault codes!  :y

Engine is the X20XE. As already stated, `clip it and post up the codes. I`d advise you to print off the details in the "How To" guide and take with you :y

Ok been and done the clip test and got 0335 as the result so I assume that the cranckshaft sensor is knackered. I have managed to drive home and the horrid grating/rattling noise has reduced but still there.
Is it practical to try and change it myself? and can anyone suggest a good place to get one other than a Vauxhall dealer.
