The MID should be pretty accurate with the std chip, and over read by around 10-15% for chipped. Chipping does increase real mpg, and makes it a much better car.  AR25 won't work for long though.

Is it normal for the TD to be VERY slow when its first started?

I'm not going to rag it when its cold, as I never do. But it takes ages to get to 30... or is it just me been used to the 3.0 still?  :-/

Other than that, Its not that bad (well apart from the bloody viscous fan coming on when it feels like it! - thats coming off!) MPG on the way to/from work across city in a bit of traffic was 22mpg, so not THAT bad as it did involve the odd foot full here and there.  ;D

Standard tractor just feels flat all the time - well underpowered. 0-60 of auto tractor around 12s. Mine was about 9.5s chipped.

Oh right, thats pritty good then! Will see what im doing with this tractor, and if I keep it, I will prob go down that route. However I may sell it and keep my eye out for a newer / lower mileage one. Having said that, I dont know... I love my V6 and knowing me I wont want to part with it, so god knows... No Idea what I want to do actually!  ;D
