paper clip advice
« on: 17 April 2009, 13:46:17 »

hi, as title advice needed,
1999 v reg 2.5 v6 estate.(facelift)

just paper clip tested not the results i expected ie 12 and 31 plus any faults.

the results i got are 12 and 19 ? only done with ignition on not tried with engine running.
i have a headlight low warning so i expected something to do with sensors or headlight adjusters also i slight misfire i was hoping for some clues from this test.

19 is stored code for crank sensor (are you experiencing intermittent starting probs). Does the MID say "headlight field beam/vision" or similar. If so, check front and rear passenger side sensors, link arm on sensor may have popped off

no starting problems at all,
checked the two link arms both ok removed and cleaned the electrical conections still headlight vision warning hence doing paper clip test to try and narrow the fault down a bit.
hopefully crank sensor is an old fault code ?

A paperclip wont tell you why the headlights are low,

you need a proper code reader for that.

your 19 needs attention in the form of a new crank sensor though.

2.5 / 3.0's cant report missfire either, only the later drive by wire 2.6 and 3.2's can.
