I wouldn't have thought that you could put overly much oil in because of the way they are filled.....

But too much fluid is not good

overfilling will cause serious damage to the seals , drain it down to correct level straight away  :(

are you sure its overfull?

the fluid will spill if you open the plug, with the car turned off, and on the level.

The correct level is to the plug, car level and running.

Thats what i thought Jimbob....... :-/

Surely it would spill out??
I can see how you could overfill it if it was the older set up with a dipstick....

Ok, many thanks, taken the advise and let the fluid run out to the correct level, with the engine ticking over, about 1/2 pint came out.
My fault but maybe a lesson to others, changed the radiator a week last sunday, when refitting it I primed the coolant part of the rad, so as 'ATF' had run all over the garage floor I thought I would prime the 'ATF' cooler on the rad to replace any lost.
It would seem with hindsight this was unnecessary as the majority of the fluid drains back into the box.
Really hope it hasn't caused any long term damage !!!!

I've heard old/used atf expands.

If severe, then a level check is meaningless on really old fluid.

- not sure what colour mine is ....

My personal theory is change it every year!

If it doesnt do it much good it wont do it any harm, its not that hard to do or excessively expensive either

Interesting, changed the ATF at 134k last January so not that old, but yes I agree as the miles click up it is worth doing more oil changes, now at 156k.

I used to change the ATF in Monza's every year,i know its a bit OTT but i firmly believe the car perfomed better through the box when changed often,i did honestly feel a difference when i either went into one of the other Monza's or someone elses, mine always felt 100 times better...
The way i looked at it...£20/30 got me decent ATF and a hour of my time....not really a drama, and i had better performance from it,so for me it was a 'no brainer' ;)

Dont get me wrong,i know the Miggy is a bit different,i wouldn't take the bottom off and do the filter every year but a drain and top up will keep it sweet! :y

Ahhhh, so how much are you actually changing?

whats your method, syringe some out and back in?

assumed you were dropping both sumps.

Drop the sumps every 2 years! :y

Sook out as much as you can with a clear flexable tube, top up,not a full change i know but a wee re-fresh all helps it
Do it a couple or 3 times over a couple of days and you can re-fresh a fair bit! not do it any harm even if it doesn't help that much, :y

But as Tesco say.....'Every little helps' ;D ;D
